It's unusual nowadays to lose your broadband for ten days. You ask them for a Migration Access Code and apply elsewhere. Even if you change to a LLU service, the down time is likely to be minutes.0

Brassedoff wrote: »Thanks for that. I will chase it up today, I have just looked at it and if says that it is for those that still pay BT line rental and the service provider with calls. It is not the case with us. We pay UTW 100% for our telephone calls, does it make a difference?
The main thing is to get your line back as a BT line and then you can use any of the cheap alternative call providers e.g. 18185 etc. and any of the many different ISP's, dependant on your needs.
The 024 code is the Coventry area, but we a far from the city. Everyone has to put 76 in front of the number here.
Incorrect, not everyone! You still seem confused about the Coventry numbering scheme.
Our old number with BT was 024 7612 3456, but UTW changed it to 024 7712 4567,
They simply gave you an alternative Coventry number on the later 77xxxxxx numbering range.
when our area code was 01203, we just dialed 123456, now it's eight digets. Now imagine the confusion we have living in an area where UTW have changed our 76 to 77!
You requested a new number and BT may have also given you a 77xxxxxx number, as numbers do get reused after a period of time.
You give your phone number out and either people write down 76 thinking they have heard you wrong, in which case they cannot call you back or you go through a well rehearsed speech detailing why it is different.
There are thousands of Coventry 77xxxxxx numbers in use, not just yours!
Why is ‘02476’ wrong?
It’s misleading and makes no sense:
• Writing (024) 7612 3456 shows clearly that people within Coventry only need to dial the last eight digits to reach you; writing 02476 123456 wrongly implies they could dial just the last six numbers.
• It wrongly implies that all local numbers start ‘76’. In fact, 77xx xxxx numbers have been issued since 2006 due to growth and more numbers being required. In a few years time, there may be still more variations. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Thanks Expresso, one educated person in our local numbering as a result. I will try what you suggest.0

What am I "in" for the money?? Your post isn't making much sense to me, and I have got a grip thanks! You didn't answer my question though, why after 4 years didn't you switch from UW if you were so unhappy, or are you saying it has taken over 4 years to sort out your issues? (though you did say you had stayed with them "more out of habbit than anything else.")
No need to be rude though and call me a silly women.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Can't you make a point without resorting to personal abuse!(reported)
Anyway we have it on good authority that janinew has not been scorned lately;)
Why do people feel the need to resort to personal abuse, just ruins a good debate!
Who's authority is this anyway Cardew, they seem to know far to much about me!!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:
