Ok thanks I get that, but how do I check if they have billed me correctly for an imperial meter or metric?
I have just called the company and they tell me they have been billing me for an imperial meter - I don't know what to do about it now, cant be right. EON have told me that based on usage my combined bill is £150 per month, how can Utility warehouse be sooo different and how do I prove that I have been overcharged which I am so sure has happened? Any help gratefully received and thank you in anticipation!!0 -
Those pence per kwh look like electric costs to me. Gas is usually just over 4p per kwh.0

Is it the gas or the electrcity where the bill has becoem 'extortionate'? If the former, then, as Millicent indicated, the first thing to check is whether you have a metric meter, but are being billed for imperial units. Check your meter and bills.
both G & A are overpriced ie Nov bill shows Gas £266.44 elec £253.68! just don't know where to start to find out wot the problem is and get to the bottom of it.0 -

taking from the bill gas is 4.336p per kw hour. electric is 14.024p per hw hour0 -
I have checked my gas meter and it is ft3 which I believe is imperial, maybe that's the problem, don't understand what difference that would make tho. My last gas bill with them showed: units 184. calorific value 39.2. kilowatt-hours5798. pence per kilowatt-hour 14.336. total cost £251.40 (gas only!) standing charge per day 2.35
It would make a huge difference if you had a metric meter but were being billed as if you had an imperial one-it would inflate your bill by a factor of 2.83.Howver, the conversion is correct for an imperial meter.
Those billing figures cannot be correct though. If you were paying 14.336p per kWh (the typical 2nd tier rate is about 4p), then your units alone (before SC's) would cost around £830) based on 5,798kWh. I think you mean 4.336p, which would be around £250.
Edit: I see you have now corrected this. Your electricity bill is therefore correct for your usage. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

The cost can not be 14p per kWh for gas, the standing charge is not 2.35 p per day (that may be the number of units charged at tier 1 price.)0 -
Sorry, but those numbers are wrong.

My error is haste - correct per kwh is 4.336 (sorry) but says standing charge 2.35 (guess its total rather than per day - sorry the bill breakdown is confusing for me!0 -

Well your gas is not 'overpriced', as has been demonstrated. Have you considered that this is your first winter with UW and your consumption will of course have soared since Nov/December with the very cold weather? You can expect to use 80% of your annual gas total in the coldest 3 months.
If you want us to check the electricity, tell us how many kWh you have been billed for to give a total of £253.68. It should be around 1750kWh. How many days does this cover?
What is clear is that your electricity consumption is very much higher than the average-it should be far less per month in £ than your gas. Can you also post your annual kWh consumption figures to give us some perspective on this? They're on your annual statement, or available from your supplier by phone. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Usage for the electric as above was 1691 kwh. gas for that month 5798 kwh - wouldn't mind if the heating was on all the time etc etc - don't have an annual statement (only been in this house since June 12)0 -

Those are crazy consumption figures! Are you royalty?Somethimg is definitely wrong here. Do the figures shown on your bills tally with the figures showing on your meters? Can you log into your online account and check out one of last Summer's bills and see what sort of usage figures are on it?
