The majority of new UW customers would qualify for energy prices that would be the absolute cheapest in half of the regions

Now that is interesting. Do you know which regions would benefit, and the evidence for this, please? Thanks.

No problem. The regions where UW are currently 2nd cheapest (behind Spark) when the 10% annual discount is taken into account are:

    Scottish Hydro
    Norweb
    Northern
    Manweb
    Swalec
    SWEB
    Southern

(there are 14 regions in total)

Took me 15 mins this morning by using UKPower (the fastest one for this sort of exercise as will be explained later on) and inputting a nonsense post code which then takes you to the page where you can choose the billing region. Input 16500 Gas (High tariff) and 3300 Electric (Medium tariff) and press continue (Monthly direct debit for both) and select 'All available tariffs'. The figure that comes up AFAICT doesn't include the club fee so add £9 (the annual club fee that equates to the 2 services out of the 4 taken) and then take 10% of the original figure shown off that new figure. Then keep pressing the back button until you get back to the region page, select the next region and the figures for Gas and Electric will still be there (saves lots of time!), press continue and off you go again.

So, in Scottish Hydro the calculation goes like this:

    16500 Gas High Tariff = £729.71

    3300 Electric Med. Tariff = £532.42

    Total = £1,262 +£9 club fee = £1271 less 10% annual discount £126 = £1145

That's put UW in 2nd place behind Spark.

PS From what I have seen, Spark don't seem to appear on Cardew's favourite comparison site Energyhelpline so that would make it top on there. But, as previously mentioned (not by him of course :D) they add in the club fee twice when the cheapest UW tariff involves a mix of their low, medium and high tariffs (as it does in the case of the OFGEM average consumption figures).

    HTH.

I am new to this post, but I think that most of you who are discussing energy prices are completely missing the point of the Utility Warehouse. For one thing, average consumption does not represent the majority of consumers, and for thing two, - the UW is a complete utility solution which includes phone, mobile and broadband.
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, then perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away. thoreau
  • Is there anyone here that managed to host a server (directly accessible from outside) using UW?
If yes, how exactly do you do this?

Hi. I mention the importance of basketing the utilities together earlier on, and you are quite correct. However, we got pulled off-piste by our friend who continues to assert, against all the evidence, that the base price of UW is too expensive. We won't do it again!
  • After researching for a couple of days, I am 95% sure that there is no way to directly access my router (and thus, my PC) from the outside using UW as an ISP.

This is disappointing, as with my previous connection on another ISP I could. I guess it's time to look for another internet provider.

Have you actually phoned their technical support line and asked them? I can't imagine you would get too many UW broadcall customers on here who have knowledge of this sort of thing. I for one wouldn't know where to start. IME of the people in their tech support dept they seem very knowledgeable, patient and friendly.

I wrote them an email. I will wait for their reply before writing them off.
I understand this is not an easy service for an ISP to provide, but for the usage I make of the internet I definitely need to be able to access my local network from outside.
  • Still not really sure why you are so reluctant to ring them and get it sorted ASAP.

PS weq4u is your friend here. :D

Because it's not so urgent and I don't have time right now.
