And still this argument rumbles on. I have not, for at least the past 18 months heard a single distributor on a single training session mention the Triple Value Guarantee. You keep putting it forward as a staple part of the customer proposition, but it's just not the case.

But as we have seen on this forum hundreds of times in the past from the naysayers, never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

  • I don't really think it has anything to do with it being a good story, I can think of much better. It's simply that their advertising on their rates, double the difference price promise, and more is misleading. Alas, that is the nature of most if not all business it seems.
  • Utility Warehouse ignored the ASA ruling and now look at the trouble they are in. They told the distributors they must make sure they do not breach all of the rules of advertising but they can and put 2 fingers up to the law.
A double standards company with prices to match. I am pleased I am not longer one of their agents as the prices stopped being better than others.

See the asa website or google

The ad must not appear again in its current form. We told The Utility Warehouse to ensure their future advertising did not include claims, implied or otherwise, that they had the lowest dual fuel prices if that was not the case. We also told them not to imply their prices were more competitive than was the case in future.

Utility Company In ASA Rule Breach Shocker!:D

A right set of drama queens on here. ;)

Our biggest energy company and telecoms company and the ASA. Not exactly strangers, are they?

  • In rented flat, demand for £100 from Utility Warehouse.

Just moved into rented flat, letter has arrived from Utility Warehouse demanding £100 deposit and saying I'm now one of their customers. I have had no contact with this firm before, never signed a contract etc.
Have signed up with nPower for electricity but will take a few weeks to set up apparently.
I have no problem paying for what I use until I switch but a letter out of the blue demanding £100 seems over the top.

Second letter this week demanding £100 again and threatening me with big bill ( £ 600+) when they install a pre-payment meter.

Have already written back saying no thanks I'm off to nPower.

Can anybody tell me where I stand please ?

    Many thanks, Bob

When you move in to a new property you are on a legally binding 'deemed contract' with the existing supplier - which presumably is UW.

So you have no option but to pay them for what you use, until the switch to your chosen supplier takes place - which could take several weeks.

It may well be that the previous tenant didn't contact UW with the closing meter readings, and you obviously didn't contact them with opening readings.

So I suggest you contact UW asap.

    In rented flat,
Is the utilities supplier part of your rental contract? If so, you may be lumbered. If not, I'd let them know that you are off to another supplier, give readings now and regularly for as long as it takes to get changed over. If you have not got the cash they are demanding, contact them, tell them and try to sort something out. I have previously overpaid for one of their services. It took a while to get the money back but I did get it.

  • I am with Utilities warehouse, they guarantee the cheapest.
Listened to LBC on Sunday and got the impression that I have to tell them I can get a better deal to get the cheapest deal from them, not what I call a guarentee of the cheapest.
Is this correct or did I get the wrong end of the stick?

Have you read the guarantee yourself. IIRC they guarantee to be cheaper than the standard (not online)tariffs of legacy suppliers in a given region excluding any dual fuel discounts. The last time I checked they met those criteria.

I'd suggest you use a couple of comparison sites to find out if you are getting the best deal for you.
