Just finished a looooooooooooooooooong conversation with UW. This time I was put through to a supervisor who didn't seem to understand my E7 system any better than the front line staff. He kept mentioning my "boiler" (!!!!) and that my storage heaters must have a timing control. He said that I couldn't expect the meter to turn my storage heaters on and off anymore than I could expect it to control the TV. By this time I was close to boiling myself!!!!
He said that I must arrange an electrician to make an assessment. I said that this was pointless as the only change has been the new meter. Initially I was told that there would be a charge for UW site works to visit, but I stood my ground and they have now dropped the charge.
I am concerned that the engineer might have just as much difficulty understanding the situation as everyone else, and will make the assumption that as both rates have been clocking up on the meter, that it must be working.
This is so frustrating!!!!!0 -

I'll comment more broadly later but first of all, if you haven't already done so, take a photograph of the current meter, something the "old hands" here would do before any meter exchange, even if just normally to record the readings.0 -
The UW supervisor is being ridiculous. The point of E7 metering and its earlier variants such as off peak/white metering, has always been to trigger any appliances solely wired to the off peak circuit in your consumer unit...which will be your heating.
Its only gone wrong since the meter change. That needs checking out.
Engineers are fully trained and deal with meter fixing all day long. If it doesn't work out, he can call his supervisor who could arrange to cone out. You can even ask for this if it goes wring again.
You can't fully rule out a heating fault, but its happened on the exact same day as the meter being fitted and the UW staff don't seem to understand the basics of electricity metering.
Don't mess around with the call centre, raise a complaint in writing so after 8 weeks you can go to the ombudsman. You may need this support in getting the extra kwh's written off.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
In the meantime, read (all the registers on the meter) every night and morning, to substantiate your later claims for day and night use.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Firstof all record all telephone calls with UW. Their service with regards toproblems like this is crap and sorry but I mean crap.
How to tell if the meter is E7 if it isdigital there should be a button press it and it should give you rate 1 andrate 2. If digits you will have TWO sets of digits.
There should be if done correct 5 meter tailsout of the meter. You have two in two out and one that goes to off peak. THEYare all separate and should not bejoined. IE heaters and “boilers” Yes UW are talking crap the E7 meter switcheson appliances that need off peak.
IF you have a time clock there will be anothercable but very thin.
UW have not got a clue they are just by theirown admittance “managers” for GasPlus Ltd and Electric Plus Ltd.
Personal experience when things go wrong, theylie, cheat and blame you this is what they did to us. I will soon be posting upa website with the shocking telephone calls that were recorded of them.
If you don’t understand the meter PM me and Iwill give you my email address would like to have a look at how theinstallation was left. A properly trained meter fixer would know what he wasdoing and if not there are serious problems? With possibly what the guy hasdone. (Some are just subbies) Be good to see the whole meter board.
If UW employed the meter fixers then the issueIS with them.
Andbefore the UW cult extremists start there is easier more profitable way to earnmoney. I say cult because that is the way they operate the ID’s.
“Since leaving UW I have saved over 3k hadgreat customer services and no aggro.” A good company shows what it is likewhen things go wrong.
Lol when "which" do a survey theycall round email all the ID's and tell them to vote! What they keep secretthough is selling tactics that well ........
Wouldalso quite the Utility Act 2000 and "their statutory duty" althoughthey "may" ignore this!

OK what you need to do now is identify the thick cables to the fusebox for the storage heating. Originally they must have gone to the timeswitch. Where do they go to now?0 -
If you have just four cables then this is not connected for E7. On your bills did you have a "day" and "night" OR "low" and "high" this would help.
Is there by any chance two three thick cables joined by a "link box" (probably brown) look at the right hand side facing the meter. If there is one cable coming out then a brown link box and then a further two there is issues.
I would love to have a look at a piccy of it all.

My bills read "day" and "night".
I will try and describe the wiring. There are 2 cables from the supply into the meter. There is also a green and yellow wire from the supply which disappears into the wall and I presume is the earth. There are 2 cables from the meter into a brown box beside it. This box has 4 more cables leaving it which disappear into the wall and into the house. I would upload a photo but don't know how to do it!0
