The problem with rate chasers like Cardew, they get their knickers in so much of a twist in the end they are just as confused as ever. As has been said ad infinitum on this site UW offers many people great value. If people didn't think so they wouldn't join. If things change for them they are free to leave if they are not in contract. I haven't a clue what BT or anyone else charges for their service. Why should I? I as a distributor simply show - yes show not tell what UW has to offer. If they like what they see, fine. If they don't that's fine also. And interestingly 370,000 members think the same and only 30,000 of them are distributors. So that means around 350,000 have chosen to become members. I wonder how many of them have had their arms twisted up their backs. I suspect very few if any.

As a customer I have had great service. I like the bills I get. If I need to phone customers services they are poliye, friendly and more importantly knowledgeable. Nor am I given the run around. If they need to they phone back at their cost.

Cardew and others think the price is the only thing that matters. It doesn't. But it just happens UW wipes the floor with BT on both those scores. Great stuff.

Just for record - BT do not give a superior value to UW as far as I am concerned. That's why I am no longer with BT and will never ever go back to them. At the very least I can get through to UW in 15 seconds on average. BT takes for ever - and they're foreign.
15 seconds....I just rang Utility Warehouse and they did answer in 5 seconds but they said they are closed and hung up the phone. If I require technical support on my BT line it's available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

You seem to forget BT has greater resources. Over time I am sure this will change. Their opening hours are extending all the time. I agree it isn't perfect, but I am not unhappy. I just need to wait till Monday. It's not the end of the world. I can always find out if there is an out of hours service. Never needed it myself but you never know.

Just rang myself. Sorry to steal your thunder HappyJ but there is an out of hours service after all. I rang partner services my direct link to the HO. It may well be that members have to get in touch with their introducer but they should do that any way. That's the job of a distributor after all.

Hi HappyJ. I'm sorry you are wrong. Just dug a bill out and rang the customer service number on my bill. It gave me the same out of hours options as I got with partner services, the latter will have others for IDs.

Not sure what number you rang but was obviously the wrong one.

    0844 815 0000 for internet support.

Customers need to call 0844 815 7777 and click on the option required. You are quite right HappyJ. I clicked option one which did indeed say that the technical department was now shut. Pity but I am not going to argue over the pros and cons with this. It's minor in the grand scheme of things. I do known the hours have been extended but then again I wouldn't want to work out of hours personally. IMHO we've become to expectant over this sort of thing, so I am not going to criticise UW for it as much as others may wish me to.

Still couldn't speak to anyone. I can check the service status of the internet as on the number I called which skips the main menu and that's it. Just tells me the hours and to call back later then hangs up.

  • IMO the support should definitely be 24/7 and I'm sure it will be eventually (they are a large company now). But it still wouldn't push me to a company that had 24/7 support but foreign call centres because I bleeping hate them with all my being - everything just takes so much longer (for instance, every time you say 'thank you' it's obviously punishable on death that they have to respond with 'you're welcome', lol. Used to drive me up the wall ). I do like UW's call centre (I rang earlier to check whether the £7.75/mth 24/7 call option included Intl Calls and got through within seconds to an actual human whose first language was definitely English) - as a current EDF (spit) energy customer I realise to get through to a human being within that time frame is actually miraculous.

Did you not say about Service:

But it just happens UW wipes the floor with BT on both those scores

    So they work office hours?
0844 numbers are not included in the 'free' UW phone calls are they?

BT technical support is 24/7 and free.

That is 'wiping the floor' - as defined by a UW salesman. Par for the course for your claims!
Sticking to prices do you agree about UW gas and electricity being £170 pa more than the cheapest available tariff for someone with UK average consumption?
