  • It all depends on the rep I suppose. I very much doubt if there's a 'sign em up at all costs' attitude amongst reps, because if people are worse off they'll just leave as soon as possible, with all the hard work undone. I'd like to think most reps would tell the potential customer whether they'll save money or not, and there's still a cooling off period in which they can change their mind if they want to. It makes far more sense to gain and retain, rather than hoodwink them into signing up for something more expensive than they already have, then lose them again to a rival within a couple of months. Clearly that isn't happening because UW continues to grow it's customer base and make increasing profits for it's shareholders.

I'd agree with that, but I bet there will be some reps who have a sign them up at any cost policy. Same as many door to door salesmen of the big 6 have. NPower for example get a lot of stick on here for that!

Those types are weeded out in the end, as upto mentions, because their customers are not very sticky and they end up just getting disgruntled people and complaints.

The whole proposition of being a distributor is ensuring everyone is aware of what is going on and they are aware of the services as much as possible so that they are as "sticky" as possible. There is no benefit to signing up people who will cancel within a month or two - it's a long term thing, no point trying to hoodwink anyone into signing up for 2 months then cancelling.

Talking of morals, I wonder what Cardew & Quentin would say if they were asked by a relative/friend to find him the cheapest mobile sim with 30 day rolling contract? Requirements are 400-450 x-net mins and unlimited texts but no data. Would they suggest UW? ;) It's a good one, eh?
  • I know you're reading this at the moment, Cardew, lol.

Wonder if we should cut thro' this carp

    seems to me :

*Gas & elec is not the cheapest in many cases, but may suit some
*They have some reasonable telecom deals- particularily sim only mobiles- great if thats what floats your boat
    * Offer a competitive prepay debit card with discounts - and whilst not unquie ( around 2 million other people can get from other routes) is good value
*Service levels seem variable from major review site http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews-all-87791.html ( which in fairness to UW is not unusual in the marketplace)
    * it gets "recommended alot- maybe because of its marketing via small "distributors" - who may be doing it to spread the word, or who may be influenced by income.
    * There seems to be a number of people who are ken to "dis" them regularly.. maybe from own experience, or maybe to try and balance the posts

Be careful payless, you've just committed a cardinal sin by suggesting UW could benefit someone. :D
