Well said sir. A very considered and thoughtful post, which is, in my opinion, absolutely accurate.

  • Meeper spends £1000 a month on food and petrol. There's little difference in price between Sainsburys and Tesco or Asda or Morrisons. He does so on a cashback card and gets £30 a month back.

Meeper spends x amount (let's say £100 a month) on Gas and Electric through Utility Warehouse. The same amount of Gas and Electric would cost £70 at lets say EDF.

So if he went with EDF, his outgoings would be £1000 + £70 = £1070 a month.
    Staying with UW, his outgoings are £1000 + £100 - £30 = £1070 a month.

I can't see the difference. Quentin will come back and say that you're paying less for Gas and Electric. That is true. However, the overall amount coming out is the same. Can you get the same cashback anywhere else? Not that I'm aware of. Places like Quidco are useless for buying petrol so the chances of you being able to replicate this £30 elsewhere is slim to none.

Meeper tells us he gets other products from UW, not just his expensive energy, so he could buy his energy at EDF and still get his £30. (For his own reasons he has let you think otherwise, despite my prompting).

But the UW is not unique as a way of getting discounts off your shopping.

But its risky card cashback/discount rates are unique (as other cards get you access to much bigger discounts at the same uw "partner" retailers (and petrol station) that you can keep for yourself!). Meeper knows that too!

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....let's have the details. I mean, you've claimed this approx 200 times without any form of factual back up. Why should we trust you if you can't back up your claims??

He obviously means cashback sites. Does cashback not depend on ordering online? Yes, you can order online from a supermarket, but what if you don't do your grocery shopping online? Only a tiny percentage do. Can you fill your car with petrol online? These are the two main cashback items, quantity wise, that people will derive cashback from, paid in the next month. What is your feasible alternative Quentin?

I hope he doesn't mean cash back sites because that would be wrong. On the vast majority of retailers on the UW cashback list you can do your shopping online with the UW cashback card, go through a cashback site that offers cashback at that retailer and get TWO lots of cashback - the UW card cashback and the cashback site cashback. No, Quentin is referring to the babee card but hasn't got the guts to mention it by name as he knows that its credibility as an alternative to the UW card would be smashed to smithereens by anyone who can read the terms and conditions. In effect, he's backed himself into a very tight corner by repeatedly stating the UW card is 'risky' so can't give details of the alternative card for fear of being laughed off the thread...
  • What, you mean this one?

Wow. That's a LOT of fees and a LOT of restrictions.

They are obviously a serious organisation also. I looked up their FAQ's, and found:

Why does chocolate taste so good?

I don’t know, but who cares! Fattening? Maybe. Tasty, sure is! If you’re in the mood for chocolate, check out our Discount Partner – Cadbury Gifts Direct. Mmmm…need we say more!
    Serious and Classy.

Paying your money in via bank transfer takes 4 days! Loading via debit card costs £1!!

    This card is horrible.

Plus AFAICT using the card gets you no discounts - it's all about buying discounted shopping vouchers/non pin protected gift cards and having them sent by regular post. Not risky then

Once inside the Club, you can either purchase supermarket and high street discounted vouchers and gift cards or shop directly using your BaBeeCard on our discount partners' website.
    Sounds risky.....
