  • I too have given up on freecycle, just give it to charity then you don't have to faff about!
After reading this I am tempted to post the following "wanted - 5 bedroom house with swimming pool, must be kidney shaped as square ones are ugly" :rotfl:

yes I know what you mean !

I`m reall bored by the shape of my square shaped pool - its so 80`s now

Today's digest includes TWO requests for everything for an unfurnished flat, and they are for two separate people. One is moving into an empty flat with only a case of clothes, and needs fittings, the other not only wants everything but also can't drive and hasn't access to anyone with transport so wants things delivered!
As proof that Freecycle sometimes works as intended, also on the digest is a 2 slice toaster offered by the gentleman I gave a 4 slice toaster to earlier in the week.
Our list used to have postings checked by mods before getting on the list, but my last few postings went straight on (with me getting responses within 5 minutes). Is it now normal for no moderation or is it only us?
On mine, it seems that if you've been a member for a while & you stick to the rules after a while your messages no longer go through to the mods but straight on the site.

i've now decicided to be just as cheeky as all the other people on freegle. In the last week:
    1) we had a bike nicked from our shed so I asked for one (no reply)
    2) Dh's laptop has died - so i asked for a spare hard drive to mend it (no reply)
    3) DS has nackered the PS2 - so I've put in a request (won't hold my breath tho).

Its a nightmare tho as we don't drive so always miss out on anything good going as we can't collect it. when i think I could have kitted out DS's bedroom for nowt if only I had a van to get stuff in - makes me feel sick!!

    Hey tis worth a try!!
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

Don't feel sick, if your group is anything like ours then chances of actually getting anything that is offered are about 0.000001%, even if you reply within minutes. I've collected 1 thing ever, it was a buggy parasol. We agreed a time and I had to ring the doorbell about 10 times to get an answer (could hear kids/dog running around inside the whole time!). Took it home and it needed a thorough clean as it was all dusty with damp stains. Then after using it for about 2 weeks it snapped. I'm strictly using freecycle as an alternative to the tip for offloading things from now on, we have enough junk already...

we were entertaining quite a few people on new years eve, got a table and 4 chairs off freecycle, and then put them back on afterweards

it worked well, although the person picking them up tried demanding a photo before coming over, I said no, they said ok they'll come over anyway.

They then turned up in a small car with no means to secure their boot

    some people just don't think.

    Richard

P.S. yes you'll need to drive for most stuff
  • Yes you will need a car - I was supposed to pick some heavy items up from a kind freegler an hour ago - and I cant find my bl00dy car keys ! ( and please dont say when was the last place you had them - because if I knew that !....... )
As Martin says - please be nice - there is no such thing as a stupid question ! ;)
  • picked items up eventually ( found keys ) chap helped me load them into my car and even got a free cup of tea out of it as well - this is how recycling should be !

    - they would have most certainly been part of landfill now and I would have had to drive to B and Q to pay their over inflated prices

who thought of freecycle / freegle ?

    - I bet the boys who work at the recycling yard ( rubbish dump ) aren`t so keen on it though ! ;)

On the question of whether these sites are moderated, I'm a member of 4 local FC/Freegle groups. Two are moderated well, promptly but sensibly. One seems to have completely inadequate moderators, posts take 2 days to appear at the best of times (stuff was multi-posted and has already been taken elsewhere). And one has no moderation at all, posts appear immediately.
