Freecle / freecycle and balloons on sticks

Despite the problems, I still think Freecycle is a brilliant idea. There is nothing to stop people asking for things that they want - nothing gained, nothing lost! Why not? In this age of ultra consumerism I am constantly amazed at what people throw away - so maybe the askers might be lucky! Most people who have asked for stuff I have posted have been polite and I feel so much better than adding to the landfill mountain!! I have also picked up a few useful items in return. Will certainly keep using it.0

FWIW I have just offered a 32" LCD tv on my local group. (needs fixing)
It needs the backlight tubes testing and one+ replacing - as I have not got a tester for them and neither have the time or space to strip it down further etc I can't be bothered with going any further so am giving it away.
When I asked for some ladders a couple of years ago someone offered me some, they have been excellent. The same person is now asking me for this TV, I am awaiting a response for when they can collect it.
What goes around comes around.
RE the wanting nappies - I still have a terry nappy left over from when my oldest lad was a baby, he is 22 now. They made excellent rags.
(Its been in my toolbox for a long, long time).
I have loads of other gadgets I can give away when I can be bothered to sort them out, might as well let someone else make use of them than just keep them in a box as I usually do, I'm a hoarder.
I have about a dozen burgler alarm panels, 2 cctv vcr's, thousands of electronic components, and boxes of assorted electronic stuff yet to sort out that I think I will be offering on my local groups, I just found a new home for an old mangle my neighbours were throwing out.
Ebay is to me too much hassle and not enough profit for the little I can sell them for to make it worth it. I just keep these things because I hate to see them go to landfill but I really do have to change my hoarder ways.
Although the idea has mainly been all Freecycle, the organisation itself has soured Freecycle and Freegle is much better, a more democratic organization as it empowers the local group to control how it wants to run its own group. AFAIK Freecycle is running yet another round of closing down local groups that use Yahoo groups and forcing them over to the cruddy my.freecycle platform. Hopefully that will mean more groups in the UK moving over to Freegle.
I just wish more people would offer their time to help run the groups, honest people with no agenda on seeing free stuff first instead of the ebay resellers who like to offer to help. The more people helping run the group the better it can run as it gives each mod more time to do their tasks.0 -

I think it's possibly the most expensive requested item I've seen. I do like the fact that they want a VW, not just any camper, or a tent.
Still, I guess you never know.
I've always fancied a Morris Traveller, a few years ago my Aunts neighbour scrapped one that was still running & the wood was still good. Unfortunately they didn't say they were scrapping it, I would have offered more than they got from the scrapyard for it.0 -

Then today offered this lady lots of car boot items and a bottle of champagne she was genuine said she could collect to suit. So arranged for her to pick up at 8.30 this morning. As leave the house at 8.55 to take my son to nursery which I told her. So 8.30 comes no show. 8.37 had an email from her to say she was just leaving home. She lives about 2 mins from my house. 9am still no show. I had to lug all the bags and boxes out of the garage onto the drive to leave out for her inc the very expensive bottle of champagne. (maybe I should have just locked up and left). Come home items all gone. No email of thanks nothing. No confirmation that she actually came and had the items.
I am so mad with it all I really really really am ready to give up now and just take the lot to the tip. I am sorting out my whole house, garage and loft and trying to live minimalistically and so will have loads more to get rid of shall I just ditch the lot ?
Well the lady who I gave all the car boot sale stuff said to me she was doing a charity car boot on 10th June 2012 as there was only 1 car boot locally in our area (she said she was doing it locally) i popped down and guess what there was not a lady doing a stall with any of my items for sale on it. Makes me so mad ! I wont be stung again any stuff goes to the tip ! it was good quality stuff I could have sold on :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Why would you send good stuff to the tip?
Just be more careful in who you give it to, do not give it to anyone wanting it for a car boot sale.0 -

Principal. I'd rather send my stuff to the tip than give to anyone on my local Freecycle. Never have a met such a bunch of greedy timewasters. Its the charity shop for most of my things but as they can't take electrical items they go to the tip.
I have neither the time nor inclination to deal with idiots unfortunately.0 -

it is stuff that i do not longer require and I have been messed about so much I am really done with the freecycle malarchy.
The items I offered the lady were of car boot quality hence offering them when she mentioned she was doing a charity one I thought oh yes that sounds good. I would have rather given them to any tom !!!!!! or harry. If i had known she could well have been lying and the fact she messed me about with collection and also never even bothered to say thanks by way of email. I remember names and if she comes to me again requesting something she will get some very strong VERBAL.
