wait until the weather warms up at the end of this week, that will fetch them out of the woodwork. Outdoor toys, camping gear, sheds, gardening equipment.

    Incredulous.

I am the Owner/Mod of our local Freegle group in Essex (3000+ members) and I cannot believe the trash that some of these mods let thru. Are they trying their best to scupper the whole principle of freecycling.

I control almost ALL the posts on my site. I will not allow animals to be offered. Only one want per person (Fortnightly, and at my discretion) and anyone taking the P is warned - then removed.

A lot of people disagree with Wanteds - i.e. If i want to get rid then I will post it - but some 'wants' peeps wouldn't think about offering. (Eg. Four slabs wanted for base for Rabbit Hutch).

They also keep peeps minds alert to the wants of others. Also understand that some members, often elderly, prefer to deal direct, than have to sort out 20plus replies to their 'Offer'.

Please don't give up on Freegle/Freecycle but do send a message to 'ADMIN' if unhappy about anything posted as it might have been an inexperienced Mod that let the post through.

Also, why not offer your services if you have the time.

Can't believe this thread is so huge. :)

    HI there,

Have read this thread for months & love it but I have a question

Put my 1st item on freecycle yesterday & within 2 minutes had an e-mail about it. Being a suspicious creature - how do I find this person's posting history on Freecycle? Just to see if they have lots of wanteds or offers..........

    Thanks for any help

    In answer to your question:-

PLEASE DO NOT give to the first one or two people requesting untill you have left the item on offer for a min of 24 hours.

There are A LOT of members that are set up to receive these messages from 20+ local sites and grab all of the goodies before more needy peeps get the chance.

They then go on Ebay or they sell them in their secondhand shop.

They often turn up in their Discovery Vogue to collect the item

    TO SEARCH A MEMBERS HISTORY

Depending on the type of site that you have in your region, you should be able to find a link to 'Messages' and there should be a search function available.

Next to this you might see an 'Advanced' link and if you click on that you should be able to enter the username/email of that person and it should show you what their posting history is.

I like the deep fat flyer.

I was trying to come up with an example of something fat that flies. Was about to google "fat birds"... then thought better of it!

Fat birds don't fly is a bike shop in King's Lynn
  • Just offered another of my sons outgrown bikes and yet again the same person replies within 30mins of posting, can i have it for my grandson this time. This same person asks for everything i offer, car boot items, previous bikes, books, toys, whatever it is and makes up some carp about it being for her son/daugther/mother etc she's not even taken notice of my request of letting me know when they are able to collect.

Hi pls may I be considered for my grandson thank you

She replied to my offered bike(age 6-7) a few weeks back claiming it was for her son, now she wants the bike (age 9-10) for her grandson. Seems a huge age gap between kids!
I know she must be selling these things on, i've seen her plenty of times at the car boot selling. She went mental at me once through email because i had given an item to someone else after she said she couldn't collect for another 2 days when i had clearly listed collection today only!
I now refuse to give anything away to her, but it annoys me that when this bother kicked off the mods did nothing about her except to give her a warning. She is still asking for stuff on a daily basis.

And if she is doing that to you then likely she is doing the same to dozens more.

Your Mods SHOULD take note and stop this kind of bullying.

Why not send a reasonable message (Hint, Hint) to her then forward THAT plus her imminent nasty reply, to ADMIN (And forward it to the owners email address).

Also add a note that they will lose freecyclers like yourself if people like this remain on the group.

  • How about this one?

    Hello group,

A pretty big ask, but I would like to get my hands on an Apple MAC
please. Ideally an Intel machine, but a G4 or G5 would not be refused.
Similarly a display is not essential, but would not be turned away. A
keyboard/mouse would be useful too. A MAC laptop would be great, but a
desktop will do as well. Can collect most places and times.

I'll just choose from my collection on 10 MACs I don't use..

I believe anything offered has to be appropriate for all ages.

I wonder how they're planning the anonymous handover?
