Thanks terrierlady! Just ignore all the snotty comments, if certain people are more interested in slagging you off just let them. I'm sure that's what they come on here for, just to be rude to ppl trying to share a bit of information.

  • Thanks for posting , I am looking at buying a new tv at the moment and i think i will wait for the price on these before i do now!!! Thanks again you have stopped me buying something now that i may regret in a few weeks when the price of this comes out....not sure if that made sense.... it did in my head lol.

Ignore all the nasty comments they really are just the minority.

Thanks terrierlady, I appreciate your reasons for postings, pity some of the pretentious old farts that this board is well known for didnt stick by the embankment watching for train numbers.

I shall make enquiries nearer the time with Aldi, but better to know now then when it is on sale and there are none left. So please dont be put off posting other info just because of a few sad doomers

Will this be covered by their money back guarantee? The reason I ask is that the 42" plasma was a great price but the TV itself suffered from blackout problems.

Plus I remember the Freeview tuner I bought a year ago which had so many bugs that most people ended up returning it. I lived with it for 7 months before finally giving in and returned it.

Aldi haven't exactly had a good time with their electronic products to date.

    My prediction for a 40" LCD will be £1000 - £1100

I never had any difficulties in returning any goods to Aldi but receipt must be kept (even few months after purchase). It is their excellent returns policy (3 yr guarantee on all goods) which encourages me to visit them more frequently (same in lidl as well)

the 42 was PLASMA though, not LCD - I think the 999 seems about right.

aren't plasmas generally more than LCD's?

One other thing to consider is that Aldi is cash / debit card from your bank account only so you will need enough of either available. Also no delivery so you will need something big enough to transport it home, on the 42" one they said it must be transported upright and not laid down, I guess the glass is too big to support its own weight? so you will possibly need something even bigger than a normal estate. Warranty won't cover you breaking it in the car park.

    Check it out 1st!

  • For similar size screens, LCD are generally more expensive than Plasmas (for equivilent quality displays).

They must be transported upright because if they're transported flat, flexing the screen (from bumps while in transit etc) will cause the display panel to crack. The panel is obviously much stronger and resistant to flexing when upright.

Make sure your transportation can carry a box at least a metre tall and about 1.5 metres long.

Think the upright bit only applies to plasmas but could be wrong.

It applies to both - its more dependant on the size (the larger the display panel obviously the more it is prone to flexing/cracking) and as LCDs are usually smaller in size this is usually not an issue for them. You still need to be careful with Larger LCDs however.

Unless you're referring to the old myth about having to transport it upright so the 'plasma settles properly'...
