Baskets in Aldi?

I too had probs with change for trolley - and upon asking the cashier to change a twenty she just gave me a pound from the till and said to give it back after i had shopped!!! would Asda do that?.
Well they lend out pound coins in the Asda store I work in. Most people are honest and return them.0 -
The no basket thing at Aldi is a bit annoying. I am sure it is to save paying another member of staff to move them about. There always seem to be very few staff on duty at our local ones - I understand Aldi pay very well but expect you to work really hard.
The good thing is that I only buy a few things and carry them round in my arms - if I had a basket I would probably buy more stuff. I only call in occasionally on my way home. I don't think Aldi are any cheaper than Tesco or Sainsburys really.
Couldn't agree more. I got to the checkout with my armful t'other day and realised I'd put the milk down somewhere! So it was either getting warm on a shelf or being frozen...0 -
I used the bags I brought to carry the shopping around yesterday (didn't have a pound). Makes you feel like a shoplifter
Yeah, I do the same, they don't bother, proving you remember to take them out at the till!
BTW I was told today that Lidl at least are starting to provide small baskets0 -
or I take in my own carrier usually advertising Asda, Morrisons or Sainsburys, fill the carrier with what I want to buy then tip it out on the conveyor belt, than pack it up in my carrier. ML.
:rotfl:I can imagine the airwaves of the store security radio seeing a customer placing her shopping in a bag whilst going round the store "right guys we have got one here, putting stuff in a carrier" "block all exits"......"oh hang on guys, the customer is only now paying for the goods...no bonus for us this month"0 -
I shop in Lidl and take my own bags with me...fill my bags, empty them at the till and fill them again.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

I've never seen any security in Aldi. I think, if they're too tight to buy baskets, they'll be too tight to pay for a security guard. Anyway, if they employed one I suppose they;d be too busy stocking shelves or working the till to notice me using my carrier bags as baskets.

I work in B&M and one day a customer tipped me off that this small, old Chinese woman was putting bottles of wine and other products in her carrier bag as she walked around the shop. I told the security guard who followed her around and observed her doing this, and was preparing to wrestle her to the ground (possible slight exaggeration) when she went to the checkout, took all the stuff out and paid for it :rotfl: You can kind of see why I'd be a little bit weary of doing this in a supermarket now!D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0 -

This is why a Security Guard or member of staff should always wait till the customer has gone through the checkout before making assumptions, especially when they don't provide baskets to carry your stuff around in.
I make it quite obvious I'm using the carrier bag to carry my stuff in I don't try to hide what I'm doing.

Yeah, we were waiting to see if she was going to leave the store as the security guard can only act then but at our shop there's loads of baskets and trolleys available so it did look a little dodgy that she was putting wine in her shopping bag!D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0

This way you have a better idea of how much you can carry. Even if the store gives out free bags if you have to carry it home you don't necessarily want more bags, you want what you have nicely balanced/weighted.0
