Baskets in Aldi?

No need to apologise, I know what you meant and I wasn't offended. I did have a trolley token up until earlier this week when it broke and the coin part got lost. All of this could have been avoided if that hadn't happened :rotfl:
Merirtaten, I had the same thing when I asked if the cashier could change some coins into a pound the first time I went in, she said to just give it back when I came back through the checkout. I'm very very surprised this seems to be a store-wide type thing as about 90% of the population where I live would just walk right out the store with it :eek:D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0 -

i said to customers a couple of times t just bring it back once doen which they did, may have been teh fact that the customers who asked were polite or we judged the customer and decided whether they were likely to bring the coin back, the staff have to be careful as if the member of staff does it for 10 or 20 customers in 1 week and they dotn return the coin it would look bad on the staff who lent the coins as teh tills re cashed up at night and any large discrepencies are frowned upon0 -
I used the bags I brought to carry the shopping around yesterday (didn't have a pound). Makes you feel like a shoplifterSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
The no basket thing at Aldi is a bit annoying. I am sure it is to save paying another member of staff to move them about. There always seem to be very few staff on duty at our local ones - I understand Aldi pay very well but expect you to work really hard.
The good thing is that I only buy a few things and carry them round in my arms - if I had a basket I would probably buy more stuff. I only call in occasionally on my way home. I don't think Aldi are any cheaper than Tesco or Sainsburys really.0 -
I remember aldi staff searching my mothers bag, she always had a large handbag because she used to carry two or three purses (don't ask?). She was with my dad and had a trolley but after she had paid for the shopping they asked to search her bag, she was extremely embarrassed, I wish I had been there. It really upset my mother who was a pensioner who walked with a stick, but then again, if she had been younger they probably wouldn't have picked on her. But, as I said before, I just take a carrier with me, put my items in then take them out at the checkout. I never buy enough in aldi to warrant using a trolley, oh, and our local netto has baskets big yellow plastic ones.

I paid my first ever visit to Aldi on last Bank holiday monday and was disappointed as a lot of the stuff wasn't that cheap(and quite a few items dearer than Tescos/Morrisons.Their J20 equivalent drinks were ok at £1.79(for 4),but sometimes it may be like the main supermarkerts where some branches are better than others.0

I went into Aldi's yesterday for the first time and I was amazed how cheap some of the produce was...it's disgusting! Why can't they be more expensive like Tesco and Asda??0

I use two branches of Aldi.
One of them has never had baskets. I don't do trolleys as I shop in small quantities so it's a case of precariously balancing the shopping in my hands/arms and hoping that it gets to the till unscathed!
The other branch introduced baskets a couple of years ago. Sometimes the security guard will collect and reposition the baskets but on my most recent visit it was the local Big Issue seller who was doing this!0 -
I find the Aldi products alot better quality although in some cases slightly more expensive than Tesco/asdas "value brands". The cereals are far better than any of the supermarkets cheap brands.
For me personnally I prefer Aldi as I can whip around quickly, buy all the basics I need at good quality for a good price and fly through the checkout (so much easier with kids than queing). I also like the special offers espcially the gardening and kitchen stuff.
I don't pack at the back but just shove everything into the trolley. It just goes into the boot loose and then I use an Aldi cloth carrier (free on the opening day of our aldi last year) plus some other bags and boxes in the house to pack up from the boot. Mind you I have 3 kids who are good at unpacking into the house so its free labour lol.
I agree though its a case of getting used to how aldi/netto/lidl work really. We also get alot of food from our local farm shops-much much higher quality than the supermarkets and in most cases cheaper as well. But I have been known to pick up the offers from the big four eg when sainsburys do the baby toiletries offer we stock up and get some of their value stuff which is not bad such as the cheap value curry sauce. Tesco tends only to be used for cheap kids clothes or good offers. Morrisons for any bits I can't get at Aldi or elsewhere say once a month/6 wks or so.
The thing is I am a SAHM so have the time to shop around and then cook most meals from scratch which makes a huge difference to the amount we spend each month. If I only had time to go to one shop for a big monthly spend I suppose it would be different.

Aldi, Lidl & Netto, me too. Can I moan a bit here? Could ALL people who frequent these stores PLEASE pay immediately the till gives the receipt. OR alternatively put your card in as soon as advised. The amount of time I spend while (generally) elderly women f*nny about with their purses looking for the odd penny while the stuff they have bought lies on the counter, THEN start to arrange these items nicely into spaces in their bags while the cashier, and the rest of us, patently awaits them to pay the bill! PAY THEN PACK, but do it out of the way of the next person. .0
