i always voted Ld because they were vaguely close to the Tories in my area--it told the Tories that there was another party to vote for!-maybe now Labour will pick up the centre position as well as the left and convert my wasted vote to a seat.

OMG look what the Lib Dems have allowed to be in charge of education. This is unforgivable.

Usually the unthinking Labour horde who seem to expect the Lib Dems to simply fall into line to prop their corrupt party up and keep it in power.

A "substantial increase" in personal allowance for income tax from April 2011, with a longer-term objective of increasing the personal allowance to £10,000

Good. I have no problem with either what they are doing with NI and personal allowances. The jobs tax element of the NI rise has gone, the onus on the Employer to pay it, but the personal tax element of it remains so the Treasury gets some money. A reasonable compromise.

IHT is also in the long grass now.

We will see how substantial the increase is in about 50 days.

2.5% actually and that was always going to happen whoever got in. No party ruled it out.

i don't expect that from the lib dems. they'd prop up any party to get themselves in power. and they'd put anything in their manifesto to con voters - then decide for themselves which bits are convenient to keep and which policy areas they'd agree to vote in entirely the opposite way.

    one word for it. shifty.

It's the people the press interview that are saying this. They selectively interview and whip up sentiment in order to generate news stories, anything for extra viewers or newspaper sales.

friends are saying it. colleagues are saying it. people on here are saying it. we don't need the press to say it. the 'press' no longer have the power they once had in terms of most people's opinion forming anyway - most people i know get their news and share opinions through the internet.

this doesn't need spin. i'd say the spin needs saving for the supporters of the marriage of cleggeron. and the lib dems party members.
