We should maybe delete these posts, I would hate to make a habit of us agreeing in public.

Another election by the end of year I think is more likely :D

only if theres a vote of no confidence and they need 53% to get that apparently and cameron has nearly alll of the mps on his side so its very unlikley

Its almost inevitable to agree sometimes :)

Despite what is often posted from one side another there are reasonable people voting for most of the parties (I won't say all, because I don't believe that) as well as unreasonable ones.

I believe pretty much everybody wants to live in a stable, healthy and generally content country. How this achieved and best sustained is where we differ. I think there is probably no right way, but lots of possible ways. This means, realistically, everyone is going to disagree and agree at points with everyone else. The yah-boo insults go all ways, but needn't. edit: I do hope I do not insult or ridicule people for not voting the same way as me....maybe for their opinions :o or the way they voted even, but not for voting not for Conservatives. If we all voted the same way it would become incredibly dangerous for a start!

It's funny that every time anyone disagrees with a conservative, all they can do is insult and ridicule.

I didn't mean to insult you. Its just that you seem very disappointed with an outcome beyond your wildest dreams. The Lib-Dems having this much power is astounding - you should be over the moon.

Don't write them off before they've even started, the coalition is much deeper than expected with Lib-Dems expected in every department. DC is giving the Lib-Dems every chance to be a "proper and full" partner in this and I hope that they take full advantage of their positions.

here's one policy... deficit cuts tories want them asap, Lib Dems wanted to delay them in line with what Labour wanted.

it looks like the cuts are going to happen with the Tory plan - i'd say that's letting down the people who didn't agree with this.

there's also immigration and Europe that the two parties will clash over.

there's probably more that will come out over time. i understand there are concessions on both sides of the coalition but you must admit there will have to be people disappointed over this.

Of course there will be SOME that will be disappointed just as there are some that will be pleased and there are some who will feel they are doing what they have to.

They are closer on immigration than you think. Labour would also have had issues with us on Europe. The left wing of the Labour Party are very wary of the European Union and EU integration as well.

However your blanket statement that he has forgotten the people that supported him has not been backed up as you do not know how the people who supported him, as a whole, feel about the issues concerned. People vote for parties for a variety of reasons but invariably will not agree with every issue in the manifesto. As Professor John Curtice stated this morning, the split between Lib Dem supporters leaning to Tory and Labour is quite narrow so either way someone would be unhappy whoever we aligned with.

Clegg has played a blinder, he has given the Party a national presence and national profile as well as an opportunity to shape the future direction

Problem is left leaning Lib Dems (of the Simon Hughes tendency) will be disappointed and right leaning Lib Dems (of the Orange book tendency) will be pleased because what people who do not understand the party do not appreciate is that we have factions, we have a right and a left, and we have ideological divisions. So it is perfectly reasonable for Tomterm and I to disagree about this. What I think is unreasonable is for him to appear to throw the towel in over it. But that is his choice.

I think it is fair to say that the Liberal Democrats have decisively shed their "all things to all people" image.

It will be interesting to see the consequences if they turn into a centre-right party.

come on - there a lots of people that have expressed disappointment.
however, a large number of these are probably ex-Labour voters who didn't want to vote Tory or people who wanted change and didn't want the usual parties in power. this is a large group of people not SOME.

you've made it sound like they are going to get on like a house on fire and not going to disagree on any of their fundamenetal values.

i notice that you missed out on the deficit comment whch is the biggest issue out of all of them that one of them will need to back track on.

it will be interesting to see how the Lib Dems will split between those on the right and left of the party.
Clegg has played a blinder, he has given the Party a national presence and national profile as well as an opportunity to shape the future direction
he certainly has his; priorities have change from 'people' or 'you the voters' at Number 1 to:

    1. the future of the Lib Dems
    2. his future political career
    3. the people of the country
