    Driving jobs crook jailed
    7 Sep 10

A conman who offered desperate job seekers fake careers as chauffeurs to the stars was jailed yesterday for three years.
Mark Shortland, 43, advertised on the Jobcentre Plus website and offered about 80 people driving jobs, with many of them sending him a £100 retainer as a deposit for the keys to a luxury car.
Shortland, of Mosborough, Sheffield, appeared at the city's crown court and admitted a series of frauds. Judge Alan Goldsack called him "wicked".

Saw this thread today after your bump and could see what was going to happen almost immediately.

It is good to know that vulnerable folk like the morons that fell for him are now being protected better. Scum like that should be gaoled for far longer, but ti's a start at least.
    Sig to go here...
  • Anybody who got scammed!! We received this email from Juliet Farem saying he has been fined under the proceeds of crime act and anyone who paid the 100 can apply for compensation. Fortunately my partner at the time didn't pay but good news for anyone who did.

    hi to everyone ,
one year on and were still in the s<<t still no job got people knocking on the door demanding money glad it was shown on air at least:T
  • hi, my husband paid the £100 to mark shortland for a fake job, im just wondering if anyone has recieved a cheque for compensation? my husband recieved a cheque for 85pence! when he rang the clerk to the justices who is dealing with the compensation, she said mark shortland owes £100 to 320 people. She said he gets 3 months to pay so much and whatever he pays will get split between all these people so it looks like we will be getting 85p every few months until it adds up to £100! this is a joke. we should be paid back in full. Has anyone else recieved the same?
  • looks like the job centre are setting people up for a fall again

Applicants must be an experienced chauffeur. A clean driving license is preferable although applicants with 3 - 6 points will be considered. Duties include chauffeuring duties for professional clients. Financial commitment required - you may be asked to provide a fee if you are successful in your application in order to purchase a car that is line with company standards. Employer will discuss this further at interview. You are advised to seek independent financial advice.

  • Rang the no. in job ad, voice sounds very much like mark barton aka michael bailey in prevous thread who answered calls....using an asda mobile looks like a london set up scam under uk chauffeur as opposed to nationwide chauffeur...barton was shortlands helper in nationwide chauffeur he took the calls and sent out all acceptance forms to bring in deposits.
  • hope a few of the people he ripped of arrange an interview and give him pay back ;)

btw i think it maybe nationwide again as I was searching the liverpool area
