Ah and you can definitely come if you fit in our backpack! That way you can even be carried by a sherpa :rotfl:

Curses! If only they didn’t make backpacks so darn small these days :rotfl:

Had never even head of Pokhara so spent a bit of time with google. Just a teeny bit embarrassed to discover it’s only the 2nd largest city in Nepal :o. Saw some stunning photographs whilst traversing google for this info and am now even more envious, what an incredible destination. Wishing you, your OH, and your hiking boots a fabulous time

    Myanmar …

    *wistful sigh*

You do realise I could pontificate for hours on this don’t you? It’s amazing (to put it succinctly) and I most certainly don’t think you’re crazy for wanting to go there (although the heat and humidity may drive you so at times).

I wouldn’t say the people are open, they simply cannot afford to be as government spies are everywhere but they are the most welcoming people I have ever encountered. I loved the simplicity, the community spirit, their devout faith, their contentedness (not that they do not aspire to more, t’is just that they make the best of what little they have whilst waiting to get there). So many shy smiles and gentle hellos as you walk down the street, couldn’t fail to brighten even the most miserable persons day. In all honesty it’s the people that make this such a great place to travel.

For me it was a very humbling and yet incredibly inspiring trip. It’s the only country I’ve ever been to and though “I’m coming back here next year” on the flight out.

Gosh… I think I’ve just talked myself into a definite destination for Feb :T. Am welling up with memories now. Any questions just ask, promise I will try and answer them without too much waffle.

D' you know how inspiring I find you? All this and still managing to buy your own place. Bravo :T

I had resigned myself to shelving all travel ideas until I had saved a deposit, purchased a home and outfited said abode in all the necessary. Brightens my day to see you do otherwise.

How did you like Chang Mai? I wanted to go there but didn't want to arrive 2 am with no hotel booked so instead decided to head to Phimai. Catalogue of errors later and I found myself stood in a bus station in Phamai, 3 am and no hotel booked :rotfl:

hmmm have to confess as you have prob gathered from my diary i did not have to dave up deposit as mum gave it to me for my share in grans house. she is also lending me money for fees and furniture so i am adding to my debt :o had already booked my holiday and was looking for somewhere else to rent a room as was not happt here and she suggested it :)

o dear! chang mai was good btbh we did not see much of it as we just started and ended our trek there. the trek was amazing though and stayed in local villages and played with the kids. they put on a show for us which was cute. massage after trek was amazing as well! :p

  • Ohh clipy girl - do you remember the name of the trek? I am wondering if I should include Chang Mai in my trip, since Im not much of a beach person, but not really sure what I'd do there, I suppose.

And keebs if you haven't been to Cambodia, I would definitely recommend it! Angkor is almost painfully touristy, but unlike almost every other tourist place in the world it is 100% worth it, and Cambodia rewards you the moment you step off the beaten path (though not literally, watch for the land-mines!). Though there is quite a bit of hassle, people outside the tourist industry are incredibly warm and friendly and will make your trip. I've heard the Myanmar temples are pretty good though too? You've definitely made me want to go!

  • Whoa, I just googled Khao Sok, how incredibly beautiful! I'll definitely try to sort something out there independently then, it looks fantastic!

So you should be, as if jungle tree houses, floating rafts and rainforrest type things would be of any interest to me

It's not like I'm now considering trying to squeeze any of the above into my upcomming itierary at all

Another thought for you may be the elephant sanctuary near Chang Mai, run by a lady called Lek I believe and got rave reviews from absolutely everyone I met who'd been there. No football or painting or elephant rides, just quality time with rescued elephants. She also promotes elephant training without the horrific tortures normally employed. Alas she was booked solid whilst I was over or I would have been able to provide a first hand account.

    Hello :hello:

Ooooh, Borneo. I'd love to go there and see the orangutangs, spot of diving, jungle river trips... t'would be marvelous indeed. Is it the Malaysian side you're going to, or the Indonesian, or both?

Would quite like to go on your trip too now. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Temptresses the lot of you, am beginning to suspect this is some sort of complex test set by my monster. C'mon, fess up. None of you are actually going anywhere are you, tis all some monsterous ploy to see me pack in my job and go spend loads of cash I don't have ;)

Anyway. Must dash as have work to go to. Good thing about nightshift is that everything's closed so no oppertunites to spend any cash :)
