Just back from an evening amble around the field, dog and I saw the most amazing sunset (think I appreciated it a little more on balance) like a little nucleus of red (didn’t spread across the sky as usual) sending ethereal wisps of fiery cloud out into the heavens. *sigh* Must buy a memory card for my camera so I can start to capture these moments, maybe with my next quidco payout.
are the chick peas easy to make?

    Easy peasy!
    • Drain one can chick peas into colander, wash well, blot dry.
    • Chuck chick peas into bowl with drizzle of oil and seasoning of your choice (I used garlic granules, garam masala, chile powder and coriander – works well on potato wedges so I thought why not. Who says I have no imagination!) mix together until all chick peas coated.
    • Spread onto tinfoil lined baking tray and bung in preheated oven.
    • Return every 10 minutes or so to shoogle the pan.
    • Remove when done.
    • Arrange in bowl and scoff the lot!

I had the oven at 180 (fan assisted) and cooked then for 35 minutes or so (time keeping is not my forte). Were very crispy, had a few that were kind of crispy but also chewey and liked them more. Think next time I’ll cook them for less time.

I did actually eat the entire can of chick peas, as a result the planned risotto has been deferred to tomorrow.

Good luck on the quaver hunt, I won’t be joining you alas as I would simply eat the entire multipack in one sitting. How close are you to completing on the house?

PS I did search OS for snack ideas and found …………

    Spicy roasted chick peas! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Feel a little deflated that my idea was not original, bit like the time I was five and thought I was the first person to discover butterfly’s had furry bodies, or when I discovered there was little point in starting a wasp factory as they did not afterall (as I’d imagined) make jam.

Hmmmmm, in retrospect seems I was a particularly stupid child….

Thanks for the heads up on Gilligansyle's thread, hadn't encountered hers before. You were right, yet another inspiring woman, and yet another diary onto my subscribed list :o

    Went shopping today:
    • £13.04 Morrisons
    • £3.32 Aldi

Not too bad considering there were a couple of impulse buys (reduced chai tea, a serendipitous find as came across a recipe for this whilst perusing OS for home made gift ideas, was a little loath to make it incase it was horrid, have tasted it now and can confirm 'tis loverly! plus a plastic water bottle for work as catch on current one kaput - see, both perfectly justifiable :A). Leaves me £10.64 for petrol, should be enough to see me to pay day.
  • Am loving your diary, but the post that made me post a reply is this one;
hi :) i am quite inspired by your snacks! are the chick peas easy to make? sound yummy :) in an effort to cut down i bough morrisons own brand quavers. they are ok but not a patch on the real ones :( will have to try and find some on offer somewhere! :(

i really need to tidy my bedroom, buying another cheap bed this week which needs to be added to the massive pile of stuff for my new house in the corner of the room. hope house sale goes through smoothly or i will be stick renting a room with a whole house worth of stuff in here!

As the mother of 2 little ones that like quavers/wotsits and the like I have taken to buying them in my local 99p shop and was shocked at the price Tesco charge. You could try in your local ones and see if they have them. My loval one has Frazzles mmmmmmmmm:D

Am off to subscribe to your diary. I'm amazed at how much you've managed to pay back in the past few months a well deserved :T for you.

Has all been a bit quiet on the money saving front other than….

Having paid off my Halifax credit card!!!

WOOT! Just leaves two credit cards and a student loan now :rotfl: Hopefully tomorrow will bring in the necessary statements to determine where I stand. Next for debt busting is the student loan (jumps to 4.4% this month ) and then I shall take a short break to save some pennies for my trip next year.

Have wangled 4 weeks leave in Feb/March and having a fabulous time determining where to go. Think I have my shortlist whittled down to 3 options:

    1) New Zealand and Western Samoa (campervanning in NZ, backpacking WS)
    2) Myanmar and China (backpacking)
    3) Myanmar on it’s own (backpacking)

Suspect lack of finances will rule out option 1 sadly, although I am having a great time armchair travelling there. *Sigh* So many places, so little time…

A big thank you to the weather Gods from me today, what a gorgeous start to September :T. Very nearly took myself and the pooch off for a picnic but got somewhat sidetracked by baking.

Now have several very tasty (and very bad for the waistline) treats in various stages of readiness:

Blueberry and raspberry cobbler – cooling
    Oat muffins – cooling
Banana muffins – cooling (and at least one digesting YUM!)
    Weetabix cake – cooking
Tomatoes and garlic – roasting, then to be made into pasta sauce
Roast lamb with anchovy – roasting
Kichri – partially eaten, rest waiting to be portioned up and frozen.

Was feeling very smug until I discovered my sis has just filled the freezer full (I’d tidied it to make space just this morning) and now I’ve nowhere to store all those baked goodies.:mad::mad: Grrrrrrr

Have drawn up my weekly shopping list which comes to approx £20 on mysupermarket so am taking £20 cash and nothing else. Fingers crossed!

Am still waiting impatiently for Virgin to send my statement

Outstanding debt stands at £11,836.32 (43.4% of original debt gone), once I know how much Virgin want I can hopefully wing another £100 ish towards my student loan, am aiming to have no more than £11,635 outstanding at the end of the month.

PS many thanks to memory girl and various contributors to old style for most of the above recipes, only the cobbler and roast toms come from my own repertoire, this site is fab
