Have you looked into the spaceships? Tis how I'd like to travel, as close to sleeping under the stars as I can get (without actually sleeping in the open). Just a shame they're so..... so.... well, so orange really
:D
For inspiration I regularly have a neb on other peoples travel blogs, whets the appetite as it were, although I very much like the picture idea and may just unashamedly pinch that from you :rotfl:
oooh just googled the spaceships, they look interesting! i pinched the picture idea off another thread, i think someone that wanted to get a scooter, not sure who!
if you want to go away for a month and keep costs down se asia prob is your best bet. i went to thailand for a month last year, did a 2 week tour then island hopped for rest with a friend. some people on my tour did a multi country one and went to laos and vietnam as well.
i went with geckos, would thoroughly recommend! if you are prepared to leave booking till last min then geckos reduce the trips departing in the next month and they had offers on the Galapagos a while back as i got a newsletter!
i would love to do Galapagos, incca trek, amazon camping and bolivian salt flats
one day....:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
I shall be doing my best Greta Garbo....."I want to be a lawn".
I'm going with an organised group, but I'll have my own cabin - muchly neccessary - I'm a solitary creature at the best of times.
LOL the mental image that Garbo quote engenders is quite hilarious! Shame though. Thought I might be able to sneek into your travelling trunk for a moment there:D

one day....(Yep, although sadly I suspect my 'one day' will not be until I retire, can just picture me shuffling along the inca trail with my zimmer :rotfl:)
Was it one of those overland tours you did? I went on one from Vic Falls to cape town a few years back and had a magic time. Was quite restrictive though and you're at the mercy of whomever you're landed with as travelling companions so am not sure I'd want to do another at this point.
I agree SE Asia is probably where I'll end up, fotunately I love it there, but deciding on where to go is proving hard. Lost all my photo's from my previous trip and so would dearly love to head back to some epic places (e.g. Angkor Wat, Inle lake etc.) to take some more.
Time and money are, as ever, a bit of a sticking point alas.
On the money saving front (as opposed to the money spending) I have done nothing at all today :T (hey, it means no spend right?!?) other than eat cake. That's the last of the baking gone (that I couldn't squeeze into the freezer) fom earlier in the week. Made the gross error of stepping onto the scales though. Have put on a stone since January.... original plan was to lose a stone. Seems something may have gone a triffle awry :rotfl::(:rotfl:0 -
yes i did a two week tour that went to chang mai and went treking for a few days, back to bangkok for a day then down to koh sok national park then ended in krabi. then me and a friend did phi phi, samui, koh phangan and koh tao. the tour was really cheap- only about £500 for two weeks. some meals were included but food was cheap anyway. i found we had enough free time to do what we wanted and our leader would book stuff and advise us. my group was really cool and we all got on well despite different ages.
in comparrision my two week tour in sa is 4x the price  god knows how much i will end up spending! we paid extra as we did not want to do the cheapo one as you had a 24 hr busride, another overnight ride and no excursions were included. when i added them up it did not work out much cheaper!:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
Just discovered your diary - love it and your personified debt beast!
I love the sound of your Asia travels! I havent been to Myanmar, but I was thinking that if you havent been there are quite cheap flights via Delhi and KL to Nepal and the Phillipines. I'm going to Nepal and Thailand in November and am so excitedMortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000Debt free as of 1 October, 2010

Well gosh, you can't just drop that little bombshell and run! How long are you away for? Who with? Which areas? What are you most looking forward too? Will you be blogging? Can I come?* How long have you spent planning? Backpack or wheelie suitcase? etc. etc. etc.Oooh, I'm excited about your trip too, please come back and share if you have time.
Thanks for the heads up on flights, haven't been to the Phillipines so will definitely look into flights there (although just watched a u tube video about a Myanmar music festival and it's made me all nostalgic, amazing how quickly one forgets just how incredible a place can be eh). Nepal, well not sure I'm ready for that yet, certainly not seeing as t'would appear I've inadvertantly gone and gotten fatter (rather than fitter) this year
Am glad you like my monster, trouble is I'm liking him more and more too which may become a problem when he needs must leave this mortal coil :undecided.
* Just slipped that in to check you were paying attention0 -

D' you know how inspiring I find you? All this and still managing to buy your own place. Bravo :T
I had resigned myself to shelving all travel ideas until I had saved a deposit, purchased a home and outfited said abode in all the necessary. Brightens my day to see you do otherwise.
How did you like Chang Mai? I wanted to go there but didn't want to arrive 2 am with no hotel booked so instead decided to head to Phimai. Catalogue of errors later and I found myself stood in a bus station in Phamai, 3 am and no hotel booked :rotfl:0 -
Ah well, was back to work for me today but caught the most amazing sunrise on the drive in and a double rainbow to boot so not all bad.
Should have been a no spend day but one of the girls is getting married and I wanted to put into her collection so, treated myself to ice cream and coffee to break a £20 only to return to ward and discover the gift had already been bought£2.95 spent in error then
Keep trying to get a handle on this motivation thing that's lurking deep within the recesses of my being but no joy yet. Had it last night - just as I was drifting off I remember a blinding light of clarity and all became clear. Toyed with the idea of getting up and writing it down but thought 'nah, how can I forget this, tis brilliant!'. Awoke this morning and nada, nowt, total blank. Whenever will I learn not to do this.
Had something to do with motivation pictures of my goals, obscured by other pictures/words of things I needed to do to get there and involved the removal of said things as and when completed to reveal (at the end) my hearts desire. Sort of, except that's a bit pants and my idea last night was quite simply brilliant, so something's got a little lost in translation somewhere.
Toningt I am sleeping with pen and paper tucked under my pillow, fingers crossed!0 -

Perhaps he can morph into a happy savings monster, at which point you can feed him and care for him and make him happy?
I'm super excited for my trip - I've been to Asia before (I work for a development charity) but never on holiday. To be honest I am the sort that goes without a plan (or reservations, or bookings...), but this trip is with OH so its a bit more planned. We'll go to Kathmandu, then leave and go to Langtang (I think!) which is a trek up to some sacred Himalayan lakes. If we have time after we'll pop into Pokhara then go back to Kathmandu and fly to Thailand. OH will stay a day or two then has to go back as he only had 2 weeks annual leave, and I'll stay an extra week, probably reverting to my preferred form of no-plan travel! Im excited about the whole thing to be honest, and though I wont be blogging I'll be back to update!
Ah and you can definitely come if you fit in our backpack! That way you can even be carried by a sherpa :rotfl:
Tell me about Myanmar! I gather you've been before? Whats it like? Are people quite open or is a oppressed atmosphere? Work is going to send me abroad for about 2 years and I was considering requesting Myanmar, so tell me if I'm crazyMortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000Debt free as of 1 October, 2010
