I can so relate to this. I would have had my own debt monster, were it not for meeting my lovely OH when I did. So phew.

I liked someones idea that when you were debt free, he could rise lazerus like from the dead as a reformed savings monster.... nice one

I live in New Zealand, and it is a lovely place, but the exchange rate is pretty pants for coming out here at the moment... I personallly don't go for holidays places where there are juntas, so maybe Cambodia would be a good prospect...

good luck with your ongoing fight. I am sure you will wrestle the monster in to submission soon!

And on a different topic would love the recipe for banana muffins....
thanks
chev

Hi, yep I very much like that idea too am growing ridiculously fond of the virtual beastie.

Current plans allocate 10 (ish) days in Cambodia and the rest in Myanmar. I wholly appreciate your ethical concerns re Junta and I spent a long time debating these before my first trip, obviously I went, and that trip confirmed (to me) my belief that the country needs independent travellers. Aung San Suu Kyi changed her plea re tourism last year to reflect this so I'm in good company  (for once!).

Anyhow, the banana muffin recipe I pinched from old style. T'is easy peasy.

Banana Muffins

3 very ripe bananas (almost walking) or use defrosted frozen bananas! <- my prefrence
pinch of salt
6oz melted butter
1 teaspoon bicarb of soda dissolved in 1 tablespoon water
6 oz caster sugar
1 egg beaten
10 oz plain flour

Smash bananas, although if going the defrosted route you’ll find they squish out ready smashed :T.

Add remaining ingredients and mix roughly together with wooden spoon (don't over mix or it's tough muffins a go go). Dollop into 12 muffin cases/tray and bake at 170C (fan assisted) for 25-30 mins. If not destined as breakfast muffins I tend to sprinkle demerara sugar on top as soon as they leave the oven, yum!

These freeze beautifully and are most amenable to additions such as currants, chocolate :o etc as you fancy.

Hi, I'm good thanks how's you?

Congratulations on the huge pay you certainly deserve it, here's to many, many more of the same

I've just spent the last month on a rotation to a different ward, no nights and no weekends so next months pay cheque will be a bit of a shocker. Must try and remember that when the temptation to spend overwhelms me :rotfl:

Okay dokey my 50 day challenge:
1) Have glowing luminous skin
Need to get rid of this scab on my chin, ergo I must stop picking!

2) Lose a stone
Not just in an ’Oh where’d I put that again?’ sort of way either. Got fitted for the new uniform at work the other day: First size was just a little nippit, next size up was like clown clothes  (severe danger of flashing boobs upon bending over – not ideal in my job). I went for the nippit set so need to slim a little to make them more erm… seemly shall we say :o

3) Be debt free
Well why the blazes not? Law of abundance and all that ;)

4)
Learn some functional Burmese
Alas, languages are not my forte. Last time I could say hello, thank you, how much, and some rudimentary numbers. Found this wholly inadequate at times, such as when I plonked myself down in a local Indian looking for something (please god anything!) other than rice. A nice Dhal maybe washed down with a cold beer? Alas, they could not understand me, nor I them. Ended up with some sort of ginormous pancake dusted with sugar which they kindly snipped into edible sized bits with scissors (the largest scissors I’ve ever seen as it happens, these babies could easily have moonlighted as garden sheers) and a cup of milky sugary tea (not a fan of sugar in tea and coffee myself). I must say the pancake was delicious (and definitely did not come with rice) so turned out quite well I suppose and was certainly hilarious getting there. This time would be nice to be a bit more local friendly though :)

5) Create a visualisation board
Apparently I need this if I’m going to achieve no. 3

6)
Renew passport
Or I ain’t going anywhere in Feb, but don’t want to get photo taken until chin is scab free. Oh the vanity of the terminally plain :rotfl:

7)
Clean and de-clutter room
Badly needs done, currently having to share my bed with the printer cos there’s just nowhere else to put the blasted thing :shhh:

8)
Attend a Christmas market
Europe looks increasingly unlikely but there’s always Edinburgh at a push

9)
Save enough from budget to pay registration fees
How the blimmin eck I forgot to allow for this?

10)
Become a more rounded and contented individual
Well, I wanted 10 goals. Not entirely sure how I’ll achieve this one but will report back when I come up with something

And that’s that, 50 days from Nov 1st I should be a slimmer, wealthier, prettier, happier, more festive, bilingual version of my current good self. Canny wait :rotfl: :D

Ack! Isn't that in London? Krakow would probably be cheaper :rotfl:

Might give it some thought though, could catch a musical whilst I was there and everything. Hmmmm.... *wanders off pondering*

Read The Secret again last night, some chap claims he cured his need for glasses in 3 days! Dubious? moi? Not at all :p and if he can do it in 3 then I can surely do it in 50!

So, challenge no 11 coming up.

By Dec 20th I will, without aid of spectacles or contact lenses (nor any other visionary aids), have vision of 20/20 or better. (currently -3 in each eye)

Hmmm, wonder if I should book myself in for an eye test on the 20th, or if that may be overkill? ;):D

386 days to go! :j

One week in to the 50 day challenge and not a lot of headway made alas, really must get a wiggle on :naughty:

Chin is getting better but not yet completely healed.

Erm… No other progress to report :o

Am really struggling with this Law of Attraction thing. Too many doubts and questions to able to suspend disbelief in the requisite manner it would seem. Trouble with The Secret, for me anyway, is that there is no substance to it e.g. it’ll make a claim and state that this claim has been scientifically proven, but no mention of what that proof is, nor even where I can go to find said proof. I find this very frustrating if I'm honest.

However, in the spirit of perseverance I have been googling around a little and came across an interesting exercise:

Take 8 carrot tops, put 4 into one saucer of water and 4 into another saucer of water. Mark one +ve and the other –ve. Each day lavish love and praise on the positive dish and deride and berate those in the negative dish. Observe results.

I have 8 carrots (and access to water and saucers) so think I’ll give this a go in the hope it helps clarify things in my head (or gets me a padded room in Bedlam :rotfl:).
