The Debt Monster Must Die!

that sounds like a good idea!
i also feel that about my spending, aware that i can afford to overpay my debts to repay quicker but others cant even meet min payments. what works for us is obv diff to what other people need to do. my budget represents a big change for me!:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
Sneaking back on to report on the sad demise of my £2
Alas, I am forced to confess it lost its fight for survival on Saturday when I exchanged it *cough* and some! *cough* for some lovely balls of wool. Which I’m currently fashioning (rather haphazardly :undecided) into some stockings of the festive variety, quite what I’ll do with a pile of outsize woolly footwear remains to be seen but am finding the making of them very soothing (aside from the excruciating hand cramps , never got those before) at least.
Have also squandered monies buying breakfast at work (twice!) because I couldn’t face yet another muffin . May need to rethink my menu choices for packed breakfasts/lunches methinks.
After getting very excited about trip to Krakow, it now looks decidedly shaky, mainly because I can’t yet access my off duty for December. Only need 3 or 4 days off together (preferably 4) to make the trip, which am bound to achieve at some point but without knowing dates I can book nothing and cheap flights are selling out fast. Swithering over just booking flights and then self rostering around them but ‘tis a risky manoeuvre as never guaranteed to get what one rosters these days
However, if it doesn’t happen I’ll just have to wait until next year when I can book a week of annual leave and enjoy the markets debt free!0 -

Mine too although, looking at the sums I have available to overypay with am blowed if I know what I spent it on before0 -
Has been quite a revealing week here at Keebs central: darn near came close to flinging every penny I have at the student loan (thanks to wonky slc system and one particularly dense call centre employee ). Caught myself in time and realised stupidity of that (makes no more sense now than when I decided to concentrate on cards first). Phew!
Anyhow, caused me to reflect a little on my journey to date and must say am shocked at how often I’ve changed things. Seems I get bored way quicker then I imagined and feel the need to mess with things to get a sense of achievement. Trouble is I’m in danger of messing myself off my DFD of Dec 2011 into Jan 2012  so need to be pretty darned careful. Looks like the old monster is even more devious than I thought
All my life have thought I was a very patient person so has been quite a revelation to discover otherwise I can tell you (patient with people yes, not so much so in other areas alas) now need to find some way of adjusting and altering these destructive habits. Only question is how  :undecided :rotfl:
Love Beccie’s idea of counting the days until all my money’s my own
399 days to go :T
so am pinching this for sure. But need something a little more substantial to keep myself in line, time for the old thinking cap to come out methinks. Hope it comes up with something good.
Am also loving the idea of a 50 day challenge a la MG’s thread so need to think on that also. Will document my decisions here so I can’t er… forget :o … like I did on the 100 day challenge.
Back on nights this week so cheerfully flung a book in my bag to read on break last night. Turned out I’d taken The Secret, had read and dismissed it before as I simply do not believe all early deaths have been invited by the deceased. Have seen too many heartbreaking scenarios at work to ever believe this is true, also, I hold an inherent belief that children come into this world innocent so how can a baby think itself into an early grave? Stuff and nonsense frankly
Anyway, for want of anything better I reread it on my break and, surprisingly, have found a lot of inspiration there I didn’t get first time round. Still think some of it is nonsense but guess that’s OK. So need to collate my thoughts on this too, formulate a plan of action and report back here. Apologies in advance to anyone still trying to read this diary as I know it will be interminably boring but experience has taught me that if I don’t document it here I don’t stick to it. Sorry.0 -
We're reading.
We're not bored!
Pah, you'd have to do a lot worse to bore us :rotfl:
I like your new avatar - is that your monster?0 -

Aw, thanks Mags. Wasn't a plea for lurkers to come to the fore honest, at least not consciously, but thanks for doing so
Am very much afraid things are about to get worse, much worse. Trying to collate a coherent thought in my head is well nigh impossible at the mo, documenting this process should prove [STRIKE]confusing[/STRIKE] interesting to say the least.
T'is indeded my monster, it's almost exactly how he looks in my imagination (except there he's blue and a lot rounder - this is defo the slimmed down version) so I had to grab him when I stumbled across him :cool:0 -
awww hes cute:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0

I can so relate to this. I would have had my own debt monster, were it not for meeting my lovely OH when I did. So phew.
I liked someones idea that when you were debt free, he could rise lazerus like from the dead as a reformed savings monster.... nice one
I live in New Zealand, and it is a lovely place, but the exchange rate is pretty pants for coming out here at the moment... I personallly don't go for holidays places where there are juntas, so maybe Cambodia would be a good prospect...
good luck with your ongoing fight. I am sure you will wrestle the monster in to submission soon!
And on a different topic would love the recipe for banana muffins....
thanks
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Payday’s been, am nearly at my target savings for trip in Feb, and only 397 days till I have full dibs on all my cash. Life is looking pretty sweet at the mo
Quick update:
Payment to debts: £228.86
Money to savings: £784
Outstanding debt: £11,286.86 (46.18% of the way there)
Savings: £1645/£1800 (91% of the way there :j)
Am almost done with 50 day challenge list, will post it (unless I [STRIKE]bottle it[/STRIKE] determine it's too confusing for public consumption - don't want Mags hidding under the table again after all) shortly.
