Hmmmm... not sure I'm motivated exactly... just very stubborn! (My mum would say bloody minded... lol :o). :rotfl:

Its taken me a long, long, long time to get to this point where this weight loss / exercising etc is happening. I lost 3+ stones 5 yrs ago then got salmonella on holidays and wound up getting very ill - my ED got really bad and I delevolped severe clinical depression, agoraphobia and panic attacks amongst other things too. It took ~18 months (on an NHS waiting list ) having private therapy and then 14 months of treatment on the NHS to be deamed "better". I finished that treatment 20 months ago but really it took me another year to be ready to make changes to make the last 6 months of weight loss etc possible.

I've had such a messed up relationship with food for so long... This is actually the longest time I've not binged for since I was 12 (I'm 35 now) - somehow food seems to be relatively easy now. I'm not sure exactly why... just that I am hugely greatful for it. I hope it continues. I was scared of something happening to derail me again but I seem to have got past breaking my wrist without it derailing me (well other than hitting the chippy once but the chips were vile! :rotfl:) so even that fear has now gone... :D :j

I hated my body (and myself) for so long but I now feel more "connected" to it somehow. Now I'm am actually kinda proud of it and what it can do (eg skating etc). :p

  • Taka, I can really relate to what you say at the end of post 83. That is where I am right now. I have joined SW but finding it hard - mainly cos I can get stressed quite easily, and then I reach out for the [wrong] sort of comfort food! Also, I have yet to change my lifestyle re the exercise business (I'd rather starve myself than work up a sweat, wrong, I know but... lol)

You are an inspiration though... Well done, and I hope to follow in your footsteps soon,

It does mean I have to buy a new clothes every month or 2 though! My wardrobe options are rather limited! No point in buying loads or spending a fortune if they're only going to fit for a wee while...

Currently fitting me (ish :p) I have...
    - 2 pairs of jeans
    - 1 pair smart black trousers
    - 2 pairs of joggers (for skating / pilates / doing exercise DVDs)
    - 3 long sleeved t-shirts
    - 5 short sleeved t-shirts
    - 1 blouse (getting a bit too big but wearable still)
    - 1 dressy(ish) top
    - 2 cardys (though 1 is getting too big now but its really warm!)
    - 3 jumpers
    - 3 vests / cami tops - very useful so I don't flash my boobs / bra at all and sundry when tops get a bit too big! :rotfl:
    - 1 coat
    - 1 black fleece (for skating in)

... and of course various underwear! (Need another few bras as mine are too big again - this is by far the most expensive thing I have to buy regularly - I've lost ~9 inches from my boobs!)

I live (and go to work) in jeans + tshirt / jumper mostly so I don't have too much smart stuff.

I also have another couple of blouses/tops that are just a bit too small but should fit perfectly by Xmas! :D

It means that choosing what to wear on any given day is very simple... Ermmm... whatever is clean! :rotfl:

    Thank-you! I don't feel like that though... :o

I know what you mean... The thing that has helped me most is keeping a food diary (I use myfitnesspal.com to do this now). I used to add info about what feelings/thoughts I have at the times I eat too but don't do this so much anymore. It is quite uncomfortable to do initially but helps hugely to work out if you are eating something because you are (a) hungry (b) haven't eaten enough earlier so are absolutely starving and consequently eat to much (and / or binge) (c) eating because you are bored or stressed etc. With this info you can start to make changes that will work for you...

Other things that help me are eating regularly every 2-3 hours (eg Breakfast, snack (eg apple), lunch, snack, tea, snack) and trying to do mindful meditation for a few minutes everyday (often on the bus or walking part of my route home from work! :rotfl:) to try and stay relaxed and not stressed/worrying about stuff. Pilates helps to keep me relaxed too.

Exercise wise - I'm lucky that I really enjoy skating so exercising is now something fun that I look forwards to (a lot :p) rather than something I have to do IYKWIM. It also helps that my local ice rink is very, very close to my flat so no excuses of it being to far / inconvenient etc!

What is causing your stress? Work, home, family, something else? Is there anything else you can do when you feel stressed rather than eat... eg walk round the block, make craft of your choice, read, play your fave song full volume and dance around like a nutter (maybe not at work though! :rotfl:), do a 3 minute breathing exercise, beat up a stress toy imaginging it is someone who is annoying you... erm... up to you really! :p

Its easier to do exercise regularly if you actually want to rather than feel you have to do! Is there something exercise wise that you love doing? Was it you that liked swimming?

I hope it goes well for you. Good luck! :D

glad your back able to skate again! I have to say the thought of venturing to the skate rink near us does cross my mind sometimes now since reading your diary... Ill let you know if I ever make it! :rotfl:

Taka it's not that you don't have a lot of clothes - you just have a capsule wardrobe ;). You're doing fantastically well, I hope you are proud of yourself :T:T:T:T
