MrsMalthouse- good point and full respect to you for trying!! And yes you are right- I am generalizing massively, and I do not apologize for this because when talking about people claiming JSA and the unemployment in the economy and the crisis of dept the country is in one can do little else but generalize.
Lets face it, in GENERAL people claiming JSA are able bodied and in circumstances where they could work if they were prepared to take a minimum wage job.
The same day that I was offered my new job I was also offered 3 others which I had applied for, these were carer for an elderly woman (no exp nec it seemed!) a waitress job in Rawtenstall and a dog walker.
Had I not been offered the post I took I would have accepted one of the others quite happily.
There is work out there if you are prepared to do something for minimum wage.:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0 -

I may now give up....you have been given numerous examples by many people who have not been as fortunate as you. Many, many people would gladly accept a min wage job if they could find one.
You say you started looking one day and were offered 4 jobs the next?? Wow, you really are lucky!
Is it possible for you to stop generalising for once? Possible to accept that it might not be as easy for everyone? Possible for you to even consider the thought that the majority are not happy claiming JSA?0 -
That's not bad is it, 4 offers of work already and you only started looking for work on Thursday.
When did you have all the interviews?
Were they not interviewing anyone else?Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
But that's my point-Yes, a lot of us ARE able bodied; that is why we are on JSA and not Incapacity benefit or sickness or whatever it is. And yes we CAN work and are perfectly willing to accept NMW, (despite what some other poster put on here about being too proud to take a NMW job) it is simply that there is so much competition for each job we go for! I honestly don't understand what I can possibly be doing wrong if I can't get an interview but you can get 3 job offers in a day! I don't see how it's possible with all the effort I make to look for work-especially in the Rochdale, Rawtenstall, Accrington areas! Right now I'd be willing to take anything that would cover my rent, bills etc even if it is less than I'd be getting on benefits just for the sake of not having to look for work anymore and get stereotyped by others who seem to have the Midas touch!0

I am assuming that most of the several jobs at ASDA were at minimum wage, the ones 400+ people applied for!!
The debt the country has cannot be put at the feet of the unemployed, many hard working people have suddenly found themselves out of work as a consequence of a worldwide recession started by overpaid bankers and politicians and have found themselves in a situation they neither asked for nor wanted.
From experience i can tell you claiming JSA for the VAST MAJORITY of people is a very demeaning thing to happen and they apply for all jobs including minimum wage jobs, they are not work shy.
4 job offers since Thursday :rotfl:0 -
Yes 4 job offers since Thursday.
One offered Fri which I have taken,
The Waitress job was offered at the interview on Thurs eve which I said I had a few more jobs to look at and would get back to them fri eve. Lets face it, if you can walk and pick things up you can waitress - it doesn't take a lengthy interview process!!
Ok so I cheated with the carer job as I actually applied and was interviewed earlier in the week.
Dog walking job- like the waitress one offered on spot and actually think I might try and do it as well as the other jobs I have or negotiate sharing it with a friend I have in mind.
None of the above jobs even required me to fill in a form, I am sure that if I had appiled to ASDA i would too have been turned down, and even if not would have to wait weeks for interview, then paperwork, which is frustrating I agree.
The waitress job was not even advertised but I went into Rawtenstall and walked around, popped into several places and just asked ''do you have any staff vacancies''. About the 5th place I went in said ''well actually yes.......i'll get the manager wait there a sec........''
Yes the majority of places I got a flat ''no''. But you just have to get on to the next. (anyone interested by the way on taking the job if its still there PM me for exactly where it was.......)
There are jobs out there I promise you just need to be determined and willing to do them.:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0 -
I am most definately interested in the waitress job if it is in fact in Rawtenstall! I have been round there and asked a few times but TBH there isn't much there anymore since they closed down the shopping centre and not much in the way of prospects but it is relatively close to me which is good as I don't drive. I am most definately willing and have been determined for some months although I am starting to feel a bit demoralised now.
I do still think you've been very lucky though as your case seems to be the exception rather than the rule for the GENERAL majority if you see what I mean.0 -
Ok try the deli/ cafe just up from doodahs (sorry name has gone -its late!) for waitress, also the Farmers Glory just out of Haslingden and another pub in center Halingden was looking for bar staff, also the lounge in Rammy is looking for kitchen help - thats just off top my head.
I even saw a job in salford quays on gumtree to be a companion for an old Ladies COCKATOO (yes for real) for £50 a DAY!!
Anyone in Cheshire a lovely place called Le Petite Ferme is desperate for Front of house and people to wash pots........:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0 -
MrsMalthouse wrote: »I was informed that they were impressed with my application but I had been competing against approximately 400 OTHER APPLICANTS!!!
It shocks me sometimes how many people are applying. But it also puts things into perspective. I though that over the last 6 months of unemployment, I must've been doing something wrong. But in fact... there's just so much competition at the moment, they physically can't interview every "good" applicant.
It's scary and sad in a way.0
