Em I don't blame you for ranting at all with or without wine. That must feel tough and I am sure you will find whatever happens will work out fine and probably better than fine, especially from what I know of you. yet that isn't necessarily any comfort at the time. hugs

Paula, you know your kids better than anyone and your instinct will guide you through just fine even if there are the odd mare-ish days or nights as you find a new rhythm for all of you.
once upon a time like you it would have felt wrong to have both my kids up at the same time at night for exactly those reasons and now a year or so later it feels fine and they've moved through that. only you know where you and your kids are at. just don't be scared of doing what feels right and seems right to you. you are in tune with your kids not anyone else. plus if you try something and its not working you don't have to keep doing it you can adjust till it works for you as well as them.
we've had some horrible horrible nights around these transition times and when I look back a week or a month later we are all ok and its forgotten even though often it felt like nothing could ever be alright again. It always comes right. We are alright now so everything that I ever stressed or tortured myself over hasn't ruined things for us at all. so now my aim is to get through those times with less fear and anxiety and more trust that we can find our way and its almost always easier that way.
when we changed DDs bed she started wanting to sleep in our bed every night and so did DS so we decided that we could all take it in turns DD one night then DS then just us etc. with flexibility for illnesses etc. If I worried about making a rod for our own backs I would have been stressed after a week or 2 but as it was I just tried to relax and enjoy the fact that they still find us so comforting cos one day I'll look back on it fondly. then after a few weeks DS really got back into long storybooks and we don't do long stories in our bed cos its usually a bit later when we get them in it cos we try to get the one in the kids room settled first. so he decided he wanted to go to bed earlier and in his bed to start having long stories which DH loves reading with him. Then DD wanted to go and listen to them and climbed into her bed in their shared bedroom and I'd get in and cuddle her and she'd fall asleep in their and 6 weeks later they have slept in our bed about 2 nights each since then and don't question being in their own beds at all and it came about really naturally without us having to push it. will probably change again before too long. who knows what we'll be doing then.lol
