Ooh, need to rant! I went to the Halifax this morning as I'd made an appointment to see them to sort out my ISA. Not sure if you'll remember, but I found out the other day the interest rate has dropped to 0.1%.
I visited TSB the other day to ask them what they offered so I had something to compare the Halifax one to, and they have one at 2.7%. Someone - was it you Toots? - mentioned that Barclays do one at 3.1%.
So off I went this morning armed with the information I needed. Walked in to the Halifax, to be told that they were unable to give me any information whatsoever, but would have to call someone in Belfast who would be able to advise me. I explained that all I wanted was the rates of their ISAs so that I could make my decision, but apparently they change daily and so the staff are not allowed to give me the information themselves.
I went through a string of personal questions with the assistant and showed her my driving licence (plus the fact that I've banked there for 25 years, so they know me anyway). Then she phoned the office in Belfast. I went through the string of questions again. He asked if I wanted to move my ISA. I said not necessarily, I was just wanting to know what was on offer. "Oh sorry madam, I'm not able to give you that information". The assistant took the phone from me spoke to the guy, then put the phone down. She then phoned another 3 telephone numbers before she found someone who could help me. I had to go through all the questions again, and finally I was told that they had one ISA - at 2.6% !!
I was so annoyed at the wasted time I had spent there, that I could hardly speak. I said a very curt goodbye to the assistant, and went straight to the Barclays. The assistant on the counter told me in about 30 seconds what it had taken the Halifax 45 minutes to tell me. They do indeed offer a 3.1% ISA and I have made an appointment for Tuesday to move it. While I was at it I told them I would like to move my current account also. Don't know why I didn't do it years ago. The Halifax, in my humble opinion, are total amateurs!
On the good side, that is my mini-move for today, although still need to sort my electric/gas supplier out.

Appointments at 5.00,then have to go to Sainsburys to get some cheap beer for the slugs- I want to plant out my beans and peas tomorrow if it's not raining. Also need some more bamboo canes as used last lot to build a makeshift fence to keep puppy off the garden.
Have been watching a lot of the election stuff but they do repeat themselves so much it gets boring. Does seem like it's going to be Conservatives/Lib Dems tho.0 -
That sounds ridiculous Joey.
hope that the switchover to barclays goes smoothly for you. fingers crossed.

Joey, yesterday I had an appointment with halifax. They conducted the whole appointment which was trying to open a bank account with them, without even asking me to prove who I was. I was so shocked!! I'm tempted to write to head office as that is just plain dangerous in my opinion.0

It was me that opened the Barclays ISA - good luck with it all - Halifax don't deserve your business - you did what I would have done - WALK!
BUT - your current account may be better put elsewhere - have you loooked at Abbye and Alliance & leicester? (All Santander now but anyway...) . If you have £1000 going in every month - they pay you - around 5% I think! hang on I'll see if i can find it!0 -
