I was looking at a new Fiesta but the more I think about it, the 13k for the new diesel seems excessive. Sure, there are some cheaper variants but I started looking at other motors.

The one which stands out at the moment is the Hyundai i10 in the mid range Comfort or top range Style specification. Without starting on a real negotiation, I can pick the Comfort up for around £7000 and I guess less with some haggling. With a 5 year warranty from new it is becoming a serious contender to my 3 year warranty Fiesta for a fraction of the price. Google i10 for reviews.

Hi! Thanks I am looking at used new shape fiesta's my budget is 9k or less if I can find the right deal! :)

oooh you still looking for one chick? i love the new shape fiesta...bloke in my street has the white one but doesnt drive it...'in case it gets dirty'...only uses it 'for best'
he has an old ka that is his main car!!!

just a question..i have no idea with cars but know that the vw golf is pretty well thought of. why is this and why are they sooo much more expensive than other smallish cars???

bb, have you had a look at the new chevrolet aveo? again i dont know if this is a decent car, but when i went through the phase of 'i hate my car i want a new one' i saw the aveo. it was lush..light purple in colour..ith tiny glittery particles, brand new for under £5,000.

    bb69,

doesn't the Fiesta have a three year warranty anyway? I know my 56 Focus did. And it was an ex-hire car from Evans Halshaw. Looking to change it now. I get a car allowance and the company state the car must be less than 4 years old and less than 100,000 miles. Got it at a year old, 15k (now 71k) and it has been brilliant. Don't really want to give it up.

I like the Fiesta. I like the fact that if I buy a sub 110 CO2 emissions car I could, if I chose, put it through the company and write it all down in one year. I like the zero tax this year and next to nothing next year.

What I didn't like was the pretty poor rear visibility and the fact that the seats don't fold flat (just how could they design it so well and screw that up ?). I didn't like the fact that if you move from the Titanium you have to go to the options list and add hundreds or thousands to the price. Even on the Titanium some of the stuff you would think would be there is not, it is still an option. Further down the range they leave much more on the options list. Then I didn't like the price, around £13k after discounts.

So I got practical. If £13k wasn't much money to me then I wouldn't be buying a Ford or a Fiesta, I'd be down at the Mercedes garage. I need a runabout, a city car which can do some occasional motorway trips. I don't need something to be falsely proud of or show off to my friends. What I certainly did not want was either a nearly finished warranty on a second hand car or a miserly warranty on a new one at an inflated price.

I think the Fiesta looks the business and it is apparently a great car to drive, on Top Gear, not necessarily by you or me or my missus in the everyday school run and commuting to work. It will handle that for sure and then some but are people seriously going to push it to its limit or would they even know how to do that ? No. It is like having £100m in the bank when you only need £10m, the other £90m doesn't matter and you will never use it.

What looks great, or might if I buy it, will not be the cheap Hyundai but rather the new car with the 5 year or longer warranty and half the price of the Fiesta still in my bank !

you sure as ive seen a fair few polos and golfs(that are polo/golf match) that are either just over a year old, a year old or just under a year old that have 10k mileage

Might still be hire cars but it's low mileage for them.

Europcar de-fleet their cars at 13,800 miles usually (well, the last car I had, a 1.2 Polo had a sticker on the dials saying "If this car is returned after 13,800 miles then a penalty will be charged). I had a Polo E however a couple of colleagues had Match spec ones so hire firms don't just use base models

It was < 6 months old at the time and wasn't far off that mileage (I put 4k on it in 2 months using it for business)

So 10k in a year probably isn't daily hire. Might still be something similar though.

EDIT - if the number plates haven't been changed to dealer ones and they say "CAMDEN FLEET SOLUTIONS" on them then I'd think they'd be ex-hire - my Europcar Polo was from them :)

Thanks - Yes I will have 15 months left which isnt bad I guess, but was wondering about afterwards.

Ah yes I am quite sad to say bye to my lovely car, she has been great only had minor troubles and always started in the winter and first time!!

If anyone has any tips for me when I go back please let me know re inspection etc.. I will ask to see the V5 document

    Thanks

They usually offer you the chance to extend a warranty (well VW does)
