Tips for buying new or nearly new car - UPDATE
Hello everyone
I am think of buying a new or newish car 09 plate query budget of £9k ish
choices so far Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa (although not mad keen on the shape actually prefer the shape of the fiesta) or in my dreams a VW Golf ....
Just wondering whether you have any tips when I go into the showroom.. I think I prefer those for piece of mind, and have no experience of buying privatley.
I have read on here about pre reg cars.. do I ask or are they usually held within stock?
Any tips on haggling?
Thanks for reading. I didnt manage to get any £ off my car I bought 7 years ago I think I appeared too keen! :rotfl:
Any tips appreciated

oh crikey, would not like to be in your shoes...hate getting a car. your a fellow comper so hiya and congratulations on your winnings...wouldnt it be lush to win the dvla car..or dorset cereals camper!!
anyway onto putting in my 2 pence worth xx
i have always driven corsas. learnt in one, had an old one for my first car, and now have an 04 plate corsa. im currently driving a brand new corsa sxi as my courtesy car. the ground clearance is fab, and vision out of windscreen is great, but the back window is awful and you cant see the side of the road when you park. personally i would not go for the brand new corsa.
i know your budget is 9k but you can pick up a brand new one for about 8k.
sales men/women will always tell you the car you fancy is being considered by numerous people..trying to get you to purchase it straight away!!!
just hold back-ask them upfront if they will discount anything or throw in an extended warranty etc. im crap at haggling-so i always take my mam..she's good
tell them your budget is 7k-8k...and see what they come up with.
go for a test drive... a long test drive. go back every day if you want/can.
look forward to hearing what car you eventually get.0 -
I've just googled Ford Online and you can get a nearly new Fiesta for £8695 including metallic paint. There may be better prices if you check the internet.
Having just taken delivery of a new Fiesta I can highly recommend them.

Helloooooo too! Thanks yes would be lovely to win a car, I would save so much time!
I have an old Corsa and love her to bits!!
Thanks for advice I have been looking on What car and reading reviews, I love the shape of the fiesta but the downside is the rear window is sooo small making visibility poor.
I sat in a new corsa today and again found the rear visibility poor, but also felt like I was miles away from the front of the car as the dashboard is long!
I got a price of £10k with £3k swappage... Hmmmm I defo think I can do better!!
Reviews and your opinion seem to echo the visibility issue, which for me is very important, I am great at parking (yep blow my own trumpet :rotfl:) and want to be able to see and not damage the car!
I may consider a VW .. I know expensive but i'll have a look
Thanks for advice and good luck comping..
If I go back every day maybe they will just give me a car for free to get rid of me :rotfl:0 -

Thanks thats a good price, the only thing that is putting me off is the rear visibility, and something mentioned in a review about the rear windscreen wiper only wiping 60% of window?
Lovely looking car! So much better looking than a new Corsa in my opinion0 -
I learnt in the fiesta nice car.0

Pre-reg cars are the ones on the forecourt that say "delivery mileage" or similar.
If you're looking at "nearly new" then be aware that anything 6 months old with 10-14k on the clock is I'd say 99% of the time an ex hire car.0 -
Afraid the budget wont be enough for a VW Golf, but what about VW Polo? Try carfile for a new car - speak to Jonathan on there and ask the best price for a Polo.0
-
You'll get an ex-hire Golf for that money I'd have thought? (given you can get ex hire Polos for £6200)0

I thought OP was looking for new or 09 reg?
Yep they are
"I am think of buying a new or newish car 09 plate query budget of £9k ish"
I think a basic 1400 model 08 may just squeeze in at that price if they are lucky.0 -
Fair enough - I assumed an 09 plate would be about this price now (for a 1.4 base model ) but it seems they're more like £10.5k0
