Hi All,

First post... :)

I was wondering how people got on with this Ryanair Claims stuff?
I have just been stuck in France for an additional 5 days due to the air traffic control strike and so will be putting a claim in.

Unfortunately I am going to have to take 2 days unpaid work due to this and was wondering if anyone managed to claim this back from Ryanair too? (Or if it was possible?)

Luckily we were staying at a family owned apartment, so incurred no extra accomodation costs... but we have taxi fares (additional) as well as extra airport car parking that we need to claim back.

This close to Christmas, 2 days unpaid is really going to hit hard :(

I think most of us posted claims off, received emails telling us to complete online claims forms which we did, then heard nothing. Some are trying to take to court, others are contacting BBC Watchdog. So, I think your chances of getting a penny out of Ryanair are pretty slim!

As it's past Christmas now, has anyone received compensation or are Ryanair just going to ignore the claims? It'll soon be the anniversary of claims so perhaps some of the media would like to pick up the story then?

Has anybody else has received Ryanair's latest email which states that passengers who eventually gave up waiting for continually cancelled flights and made their own way back home won't be getting any reimbursement of hotel/food expenses while they waited?
If so, the Air Transport Users Council has clearly advised on several occasions that Ryanair is responsible, but it would help if anyone affected could contact them asap - the more complaints the more chance of rousing them to action on our behalf. The address is complaints@auc.org.uk or write to ATUC, CAA House, 45-59 Kingsway, London WC2B 6TE, Ph: 020 7240 6061

I am currently dealing with the same thing. We had our initial flight cancelled, then the re-arranged flight was cancelled. While waiting for the re-re-arranged flight (which was an 5 days wait), we decided enough was enough and paid Monarch to take us back a day or so early, due to job commitments. Monarch despite being subject to the same conditions and restrictions were making an effort and managing to fly people out of the resort, whereas Ryanair were pulling flights en masse the day before. Monarch customers also spoke of a luxury-by-comparison level of customer service, i.e. their people spoke to you on the phone and let you know what was going on.

They've offered me about 30% of the costs we incurred. I've rec'd the cheque, but will be rejecting it.

Does anyone know if I cash that cheque, whether that means I've 'accepted' their paltry offer? I would ideally like to cash the amount they've sent and then petition for the rest.

Thanks in advance...

ps - don't let the b***ards get you down and don't give up. They're banking on a whole bunch of people getting tired of the process and settling/quitting. I will not quit and I will not settle.

Around four months until the anniversary of claims being sent to Ryanair - shall we hold a party? It seems hardly anyone has been compensated in line with EU law. I haven't even heard back at all from my claim. Has anything been featured on BBC Watchdog yet?

I don't believe a media-shaming campaign is going to force an airline to reimburse your claim. Others have found that the only successful way to achieve this is to take action yourself possibly via the Dublin County Court.

My claim is so small that, like most people, I won't bother. So, Ryanair get away with it. I'd be interested to hear if anyone does take them to court though, please keep this board informed.
• Finally received a cheque from Ryanair for the Volanic disruption last April. I only claimed for unforeseen accomodation costs. Ryanair predictably declined responsibility and fobbed me off to my travel insurance.

I didn't need to go through the courts as the UK Air Users Council passed my claim onto the Irish Aviation regulator and they dealt with it. Took nearly a year and some email remindersto the governing bodies though.
