If you love baking and you are good with other people's kids why not try doing children's parties? When my DD was about 8 I had someone come to the house who organised about 6 little girls to bake some simple things - pigs in blankets, bread dough bears and mini pizzas etc plus, of course, fairy cakes. They had a lovely time. It wouldn't require you to get Health and Safety certified as you would be doing it in their kitchens, not yours, and if you are a childminder you are CPA checked anyway.
Mums with a bit of money but no time are often very happy to pay good money for someone else to 'do' the party for them especially if it's a bit different to the usual
Just a thoughtIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
This is the e-mail I sent out yesterday:
Hi Everyone
I am trying to help out a friend who is living in Johannesburg at the moment and doing voluntary work at a local orphanage. As well as being an orphanage, it also acts as a day care and after school club helping out families that are led by children or grandparents due to the death of the parents through AIDS.
My friend asked me if I knew anyone who had any football shirts or shorts etc that their children had grown out of that could be passed on. Everyone in South Africa is mad on football and instead of dress down Fridays they have Football Fridays when everyone wears their football shirts to work or school so you can imagine what it would mean to the orphans.
Please could you bring me any shirts that you may have and please could you pass this appeal on to anyone you know who may have some or who is involved with kids football teams or scouts or youth groups etc.0 -

While I was looking into all of this I got this amazing bubbling of feeling from my insides. It felt a bit like utter terror and a lot like excitement. It wasn't just that I was excited at the idea of reading all of this author's books... but the feeling that I could do this too. I could write novels and be published and be able to see my books on a shelf in Waterstones. OMG!I really could do this. Now, I have never got that kind of feeling when thinking about starting up my own business. My head is saying that starting up my own business is a sensible way to go, but the writing thing (just writing that made me tingle
) is making my hair stand on end. It is my heart saying this is the way. Perhaps my soul waving and hollering support in the background as well. I can't seem to shake the feeling that this is what the Universe wants me to do.
And you know the peculiar thing? Ever since I was small, I have loved writing stories. I am remembering that one of Mr Big's challenges was to think about what we did as a child and what we enjoyed.
Right, I am practically hyperventilating at my desk with excitement at the moment! Need to make a cup of tea and calm down a bit and then I need to think about how I am going to do this.
Thank you MG for this thread and the amazing things it inspires. (and I do hope DS1 is happier today. BIG HUGS to you both)
A while ago I had that very "bubbly" feeling after I had first mentioned strips on here, (a week? ago ) and people had started responding. It led to a night when I couldn't sleep and kept disturbing Popeye by putting the light on and adding another branch to my mind map........:D
Ever since then I have teeny weeny ideas, then I've said them aloud and the answer has come back SHOUTING :rotfl: You think that 10,000 shirts is a big ask? Well all I wanted was a dozen or so in my luggage, and something to occupy me a bit......and now I have a project and the possibility of a £10,000 grant..........
I have just taken neighbour to her hospital appt, and I was cogitating how to ask for help on here to design a logo or poster to advertise /appeal for more shirts in our Kit for Kids Appeal.......and I come back and MG has done the figures and the matrix is moving mountains........leaky here again:A

Well, I cannabilised Helen's email and added a couple of bits to it and posted it on the staff site. Will see what happens.
Going to post a similar plea on my Church's facebook page as well. See what comes from that."A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440
