Morrning All.. MG sorry to hear about DS, heartbreaking stuff, sending out virtual hugs to both of you to help a wee bit during this difficult time, your heart will tell you what to do, and very wise person (actually it was my sis, but it stuck!) once told me that when it comes to family choices/decisions you can only make them based on the information you have at the time and your heart is your best guide.. I'm sure there would be something about it that NON-manual they give out with kids.

Challenges are coming along huh, continued good luck and good vibrations being sent your way.

in this neck of the woods it's all go, but only on personal budgeting side, the required new boiler has been installed (yeahh!!! we have heating) we managed the 2.5 months OIL "holiday" though it used to break my heart putting on the immersion for water. though surprisingly elec company also sent letter reducing my DD with them, so other measures taken in last 6-9 months must also be kicking in :T. It will go up again now that gas is added on, but still hoping the Gas/Elec combined total is less that what the Elec/Oil was!! looking good so far.. though hard to tell until a year into usuage how it will pan out.

Had to reduce my DMP payments to minimum for six months in order to pay for this :( (have managed to make half cost and borrowed other half from bank of family) hoping DMP creditors trust me and don't go re-instating huge interest charges.. though one card have ticked up their interest from 0 to 0.1% :( I don't know if it's a result of the lowered payment or if they were going to do it anyway the letter arrived before the payment was sent..

as a result of the MR B. challenges I find myself with a choice as to what "career" path to follow.. book-keeping, which although I've been doing for 20+ years I have no qualifications so to set up a business would require an outlay in courses and certificates OR "Web Stuff" which I do (on a voluntary/charitable/hobby) basis anyway and my own (now archived) tutorial site still trickles in enough money to pay for itself and a few pennies extra so I'm thinking what could I do with it if I tried LOL!!

received my very first Survey cheque today.. how nice to open an envelop and have a cheque fall out really wasn't expecting that :T

"New to me" freezer installed, old one defrosted and both running ready to stock up properly for winter..

    Today:
    • Get Football Club Books up to date and computerised
    • Wages/Payroll for Company
    • 2 Hour shift on phones
    • update personal budget to allow for the Xmas and DS Ski Trip "pots" as well as repayment plan for Boiler debts
    • Get SC on for tea
    • Steam bedroom, lobby and living room carpet (now that there's heating to dry it hehe)
    • take DS to footie
    • little shop to replace milk and bread now there's freezer room
    • ironing
OH btw, yesterday I spent deodorizing the spare room (used as a cloackroom/utility room), and when I find the source of the smell (which can only be described as being like "Cat Pee") I found it was DS footie boots, came onto PC to find an OS method of deodorizing boots and shoes only to find a BBC Watchdog thread instead about the actual NIKE boots (don't normally go for labels if I can help it, but family chip in, every Christmas, to get him decent boots and trainers as he's very sporty he wears them a lot!) which had a problem, so it wasn't DS's feet!.. I love search engines! - Last night emailed NIKE with receipt, asking for refund .. so wish me luck :p

Thanks to MSE too.. cos if I had just gone and bought trainer deodoriser, instead of searching for an OS way - I wouldn't have found the issue and would have wasted money masking the cause as well as giving DS a hard time about hygiene (which thankfully I didn't though he's most upset about his favourite boots now having to reside in the garage until they're replaced)!!

OliveOyl have mailed my Uncle will let you know if I hear anything!!

Have a happy day everyone!
    (and sorry for long post..)

PS: don't remember hearing from ClootiesMum for a wee while is she OK?

    Hi MG and faithful followers!

I started reading your thread yesterday - currently 34 pages in and have just discovered how many more I have to read - whoopee, cheaper than a charity shop book and far, FAR more entertaining! I too remembered your "71p and three nappies" thread - in fact I think I may have posted on it at one point, and had several times since then wondered how you were getting on - I was for a while a regular poster on the DFW board but have drifted elsewhere recently, and lost touch with the people and situations, something which I shall now be putting right! Bear in mind whilst reading that I have no idea what has happened with your world since July.....

I was browsing the forums yesterday and your thread was the most recently posted on DFW - hence showed on the front page, and I thought "Ooh - I remember her!"...then "she writes brilliantly - that'll be worth a read" - and I was right. The amount of inspiration and enthusiasm I have gained from just the 34 pages so far is amazing. The thread found me at a point where I am really struggling with life - in the space of the last month a lot has gone on for us, nothing I can talk about too openly right now but I will soon start my own thread on the subject I think, so that I have somewhere I can talk things through, share ideas etc. Bottom line was that I had reached a point where my stress levels were so bad that even checking my email had become something to make my pulse rate increase and start me shaking.

More than anything else this post is to say thank you - by the time I was a few pages in yesterday I could feel my energy levels and determination rising, and a spirit of "Illegitimi non carborundum" (google it people if you are unsure - wouldn't be able to post the English version!) coming over me. More than ever though I felt that someone had just picked me up, dusted me gently down, put me back on my feet and given me a hug. I can't thank you enough for that.

    EH xx

KC!! Lovely to hear from you - hope you're well? I'm really looking forward to catching up with all my lovely friends from DFW to be honest! :o

This thread is truly amazing - I can hardly believe the difference I'm finding in myself just in the last 24 hours! This morning's "magic, warm & fuzzy discovery" is that, thanks to using the electric measuring thingy, I have found out that it costs a maximum of 1p to straighten my hair - ONE PENNY?! AND IT MAKES ME FEEL SO MUCH BETTER TO HAVE STRAIGHT, SWINGY HAIR! WAHOO! Not a bad treat for a penny eh?!!!

Welcome back EssexHebridean - sorry to hear that the tough stuff has been - well tough:cool: Does get easier to cope with when you surround yourself with positive peeps - so hang arund a while and get to know us all again.

Thanks for all you kind words overnight guys - just one of those situations where you really feel "OMG - I am so alone" - now I know I'm not really but you know the feeling.

I guess this melt-down of DS1 has been a long time coming - and as he has seen our family struggle thsi last year or so it is inevitable that he compares our half-renovated house to his fathers life in SA with pools and maids and sunshine and wonders. Still feel like I've been stabbed in the heart when I think of how tearful he was.

So I will set the intention of taking him to SA next summer if not before - not to see his father, but to take him out to spend time with his Gran and Grandad and his extended family out there. If his dad steps up at that point to build a relationship that will be fine, but I have so incredibly low expectations the man that I think it safer for ds1 to make the point of the trip to spend time with his family rather than build it around his Dad.

So I had better go and get busy hadn't I???

Just typig up my notes from todays coaching call - then I will be back with a rough plan for Step 1.

Hi, sorry I've not posted before and I admit I still haven't found time to read the whole thread so I apologise in advance if this information has been given out already but....

My DS has a SLD, although 19, mental age of 9/10 but speech & language comprehension, reading & writing are where he struggles most and has a very poor memory. Are any of the mind map books likely to be suitable for me to teach him and where can I purchase them from? Tried Amazon but only one found by MG were for business. Can anyone help please?

PS..Anyone looking to purchase 'The Secret', on offer at Amazon at almost 1/3rd of original cost.

    TIA

I'd be interested if anyone has an answer for this. Does your son ALWAYS have a poor memory or is it really with language and sequences, etc that he struggles? I just say this as my DS will remember visual things so I am determined to learn how to do Mindmaps properly (usefully) and hopefully adapt them so he can make them as I haven't found anything on the market "ready made". I have MG's Student Book and itreally simplifies the process for me :) .

And an update from me (said in the style of 2 Ronnies :rotfl:)

    1) Company ARE sponsoring the web-site, and we're meeting the Graphic Designer on Tuesday 18th :D
    2) Launch party on 13th November is proving to be quite exciting. An African/English Fusion, with food from both groups and local entertainment. This has unexpectedly thrown up some zenophobia which is a challenge I'm eager to accept, so you must ask the universe to keep my bull-headedness in check :o
    3) oh my, I can hardly believe this. How about the possibility of a £10K grant to refurbish another site? (I want a little icon fainting with delight, but have to use this :j ) :j
    4) am trying to pluck up courage to ask someone for storage space for Kits for Kids. We're now aiming for 10, 000 shirts to be shipped over at Christmas....... :o I keep telling myself "what's the worst he can do? Laugh in your face?" When I have a space, I'll let you know.:o

    I think that's enough :D

Right!!! Just had a right royal kick up the bahookie from Dave the memory guy. So now I am really p****d off - but in a good way I hope.

    3. Do you believe its possible that they will value it much higher than the £80 you are going to charge for it?
    YES

    4. Do you believe its possible that the support you are getting from the matrix will continue rolling forward?
    YES

    5. Do you believe its possible that you could educate your matrix so that they easily find lots of people for you to help?
    YES

    6. Do you believe its possible that you can get groups of 25 in a room and give them the most amazing day of their life?
    YES

    7. Do you believe its possible that if you could do that once you could do it again?
    YES
    8. Do you believe its possible that you could do that ten times or more in the next year?
    YES

    9. Do you believe its possible that you could find 1000 students in the whole of the world to give this amazing gift to?
    YES

    10. Do you believe its possible that you could wake up in the morning and realise that I am the most desirable man on the planet?
    NO, NO, NO,NO, NO!!!!!

............................. and it was going soooo well:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    He's such a rascal ;)
