Also, don't focus on what the scales say - my friend who has just done the Berlin marathon is quite overweight, and in the last three months has gone from nothing to 26 miles.....but didn't lose any lbs. However, she looks SO much different - has lost inches, and gone down a dress size, but if she were focusing on what the scales say, she would be disheartened. She is getting lots of positive comments on the way she looks though!!

Finally - it is v. important you don't think of this as a *diet* - diets are often v. negative, whereas you are adjusting the way you eat for a very positive reason :D

Yep, I wholeheartedly agree with this.

If I'm eating to be slim, I obsess about what I can and can't eat. If I'm eating for health, I can do it. I naturally end up eating nuts and avocado and other diet "fat" foods, but they are better for my health, so I feel good about myself and lose weight without too much effort.

The other thing I'd add, is to stay away from "diet" foods as they are mostly empty calories and you'll end up eating twice as much to feel satisfied.

As a runner - porridge and bananas are your best friends :D
Good luck - you will defo get there!

Well, as you know, I'm just starting training for VLM and i need to lose around 5 stone or so. I was wondering what's the best way to achieve the 2 successfully.

    Hi

I have recently used sparkpeople.com (free!) after someone on these boards recommended it. It has a nutrition tracker which I found useful and did literally start off by just putting my "normal" food into that. Interestingly it showed that I wasn't eating enough fat (or protein but I was expecting that).

Anyway, it is an interesting tool, you can put your exercise in as well and it estimates your calorie needs. I had to stop for a bit after gallbladder problems but the site made more sense to me regarding the breakdown of carbs/fats/proteins than anything else I've come across.

    HTH.

  • hypno06 - OK, that was an easy one for me - my most recent tipping point was when OH left me earlier in the year, with the knowledge that keeping the roof over our heads lays with me and no one else.

Certainly focused the mind, hurtful, draining, anger inducing, but with this amazing effect of "I can do this" attached.

8 months on, another £15000 off the debt, and yes, I bloody well can do this :D

and thank you for the for the grounding exercises. :T

Lara - take good care and let us know how you're getting on. x

    JayJay14 - great news!!!!:j

MG - I like this title - The Universe is your Oyster by fantacee - sounds veeeeeeery positive. :)

You know that I am going to do "The Memorygirl Tour" - the cheap weekend training days for anyone over 10 or so hat will get me out and about to meet you guys personally?

Well, what if I asked the parents of those students to send them along the day with any old football kit that they have hanging around to donate to OliveOyls SA orphanage?? We could collect them all at one central place in the UK then arrange to get them shipped over en masse when we have enough.

I like the idea of helping the UK kids help some kids not quite so lucky.

Ds1's dad is South African and I know how precious these shirts are to the kids, and it seems like a little something that wouldn't take me longer than 15 minutes per training day to do - what do you think?

Nice little project for our Matrix?
This is so wonderful MG!!! I am in, I will ask for footie tshirts, maybe we could do flyers or even a website???

Kittikins - ...how to or maybe someone fantastic at graphics could make up a poster/flier that some of us could distribute/display? Great idea!!!! :T

    MG -
why don't you add a kits 4 kids total in your signature - then we can PM you when we have sourced kits and you can see how many need to be collected together. Perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :T

Re- dieting - I personally don't do diets, I find that I lose a stone and gain two afterwards. :o So, I eat what I want but make sure that I am very active to burn off all those calories, and my trick to being size 12 is not to eat dinners :D , the last meal @ 5pm at latest. And lots of fruit and veg helps a lot.

This may be a silly question :o I'm preparing for my meetings on Monday and I don't know what costs are involved in setting up a web-site :o

I think we can get it designed for free or a little cost - I've even had offers from here :A (Orphanage were quoted +/- £3,500 )
Do you have to buy space? (address I suppose I mean :o)
Pay rent on this address each year?

I hear news reports of "good" addresses (eg sex.com) going for huge amounts.....
So I've checked the addy I think we would want and it doesn't seem to exist ...

Hi Oliveoyl If some members of the Matrix are able to help design the site there are a number of free and cheap hosting sites. If you "type free web hosting" into your search engine you should find something to use. We bought a domain name for our son's band for less than £100 so I think it is doable. There will probably be experts with more knowledge than me along soon.
  • Hi Spud, I have lots more than you to lose and have been a yo yo dieter for years. I recently started a version of Slimming World and have seen noticeable results over the last three weeks. I haven't felt the need to eat any "junk" and have been eating more and more frequently so not felt hungry Happy to be a "buddy" for the duration if you like
  • Hello folks. First, re collecting the football kits... myself and my hubby are in. I am going to post something on a website at work (it is a kind of wanted/for sale board) and so will he. However, he asked some very sensible questions. Like, do we want adult shirts as well as children's shirts? Do we want shorts, socks and boots as well? Do we want footballs? And I didn't know the answers! It is such a great idea and we are both fired up to help. I might even put something in our church newsletter! :)

Second, I love the idea of The Universe is your Oyster as a thread title! :)

Third, I need to lose weight as well. And it is scary. I am trying to work out the best method of doing so. I have done every diet under the sun...with mixed results. The best one I have used was Slimming World, but I object to paying for someone to weigh me! I also tried Low carbing, but my digestive system took an intense dislike to that - I managed to lose 3 stone on both of those... but then the weight came back. With friends. I just want to lose 5 stone at least, and preferably 8. I go swimming and do circuits and am pretty fit. But I just weigh too much and am on the extremely large side of average! :) So, here's hoping I can do it for good this time.

And now I am off to spend more time with my lovely hubby while watching for the 4,500th time Star Wars Episodes IV, V and VI - the orginial films basically - back to back! I know practically all of it by heart now, but I love them anyway. We are on Empire Strikes Back at the moment...but my fave is Return of the Jedi! :D

Have a wonderful weekend folks. I am off to check the blog and see what my next task is! :)
