    Do we have any experts in diet/nutrition amongst the MG matrix?

    i would say don't bother with DHL, Fedex or UP, go with a freight forwarder. I used to work for one which has offices all over the country and i know of others as well.

    Delurks to say -

    How about BA or Virgin - I know they've carrried full suitcases of kits before for passengers & not charged - and that was on an ad hoc basis?

    Returns to lurkdom :)

    Nah - fab job though. Have I mentioned that I love a challenge :rotfl:

    Spud, the main thing is that you need to make sure you don't cut back so much that you don't take in enough energy to cover the additional energy that you will be using in the running.

    So....start off, over the next week, being completely honest about what you eat and drink, and writing it down in a food diary. Then, at the end of the week, sit down with it and highlight all the rubbish that you have eaten for no reason, or could easily have done without - the aim being (rather like doing your SOA) that you are not going to *diet* but you are going to give yourself a realistic, workable, and enjoyable way of eating that is also healthy and giving you the fuel to do your training, resulting in a fab fit spud with a medal around her neck on 17th April :D

    So, no deliberate cutting back this week - it is all about being honest about what you eat, and when, and how it makes you feel when you eat (eg, ate through boredom, or ate a big meal and felt bloated) so that the changes you make over coming weeks are the ones that are easiest to incorporate for you and make you feel the best they possibly can.

    Hope that helps - I am happy to help every step of the way because I know both how hard it is to lose weight if you are not motivated, and also how much it means to get that marathon medal!!

    it's unlikely they can do anything direct as there are other foramlities that have to be done which they wouldn't be unvolved in.

    If someone was taking the kits with them as additional luggage, then they may waive the cost, but not on freight.

    This is because of the security aspect with luggage and freight now, implemented since 9/11.

    Hi Everyone - ok am trying to be positive - the car repair cost and some essential work that can't be delayed any longer on the house has come in at £600! I had £400 to cover my utility bills and pay for the house work and pay some bills down - now I need to find the extra money to cover these repairs and pay the utility bills and somehow try and make a dent in the credit card.

    Deep breath, thinking positively - maybe this is another nudge that says I need to pursue my business dreams. I am employed full time. In addition to this I am currently writing and also working (though very sporadically) with OH in setting up a business we would both enjoy (not nearly enough time is devoted to this at the moment for various reasons). In all honesty it has been more a case of gathering materials and generally discussing it. So, I will now list more items on e-bay - hopefully raise some much needed money and clear space. In listing more items I can evaluate whats important to me and start to prioratise - the joint business WILL work, if I can sell enough things and set up a space to work in dedicated to this then I know OH will find it alot easier to just get straight to work on this - I think a shed will be ideal.:D So far I have listed some items for sale and picked up a few MS jobs - these may not raise much funds but it is all needed just now.

    Claire - you mentioned you are trying to think of some themed ear-rings. How about *ahem* little robins? I love them - I always feel really positive and uplifted when I see them. It's ok, if this isn't possible - just a suggestion and probably easier than reindeers lol :rotfl: Though I am sure with your skills you could do these too. Also do i order my snowmen off your website and pay with paypal? Just confused as I know you mentioned they had been put to one side for me.

    Well done to all marathon runners.

    DT what is your business idea - not sure if I missed this in the quick reading? :o

    Am sure there were more people I wanted to reply to so sorry if I missed you off.

    Yes just order through the site pay by paypal or you can send a cheque no probs whatever is easier for you, if ordering through the site though can you put your username in the message box so I know its you.

    Hi Spud,

    I am not a nutrituonist but have been doing this for a while with trainer (he also does the weight loss stuff). All that Hypno said is correct: if you don't eat enough you can get ill. Keeping 'food diary' for a while is good - but sometimes we don't know what we are looking for in it. There are the following simple rule he has taught me as well:

    1) We rarely need more that the equivalent of eight fists of food per day;
    2) These fists should consist of carbs, protein and fiber;
    3) Protein - best is fish (tune is great but can get too much) and chicken (but organic if possible so not very fatty)
    4) Carbs - need to eat slow release carbs (brown stuff and apples are great)
    5) Carbs intake should form a pyramid from morning to evening (breakfast loads, lunch some, after 4 p. m. none)
    6) No sugar, sweets etc. (I have few jelly babies only when doing really long runs - over 1 h 30 min; if not one risks to eat the house when back)
    7) No snacking infront of the TV in the evening - the test is 'do you wake up hungry'. If you do - you are doing fine.

    We also make common mistakes - I used to think that having a baked potato for lunch is great; in fact it is sugar in skin; add baked beans (loads of sugar) and one should not wonder there is no weight loss. Also, when you start eating like that (and of course portion control and stuff) don't expect immediate results - it will take time but it will stay off.

    Another mistake - we don't eat when we want to lose weight. In fact we have to eat in a particular way to speed up our metabolism. So the rule is:

    Breakfast (loads of slow release carbs and some protein)
    Mid morning - an apple
    Lunch
    Mid afternoon - some nuts
    Dinner

    This way the body gets food regularly, metabolic rate speeds up (like a fire - you feed it, it grows), and you are never so hungry that you eat what you see and regret it later.

    Needs a bit a planning and preparation - I, for instance have started taking food to work when I go in.

    Hope this helps.
