Great idea about the football shirts. I asked our PTA yesterday if we would be interested, the feedback wasn't great but I'm going to work on it - I know charity type people at work so will see if I can set up a one-woman collection station at my desk.
Oliveoyl - would you please PM me details of the orphanage, so I can start thinking how to or maybe someone fantastic at graphics could make up a poster/flier that some of us could distribute/display?
MG - if you do a course in/near Sussex/Brighton and need any help with admin/setting up on the day/going out for drinks afterwards/somewhere to crash, I'm bound to be around and v. happy to help
I've just set up twitter and facebook accounts in my new business name (need to get a website now!) so will start spreading the word about some of the fabulous things happening on hereIf anyone wants to know me on there (please do as it's all so scarily new to me and I'd like some friends!), please PM me your twitter/facebook names
Let's get that matrix out there!!

The football shirts are amazingly popular with the kids - and there were some pretty random teams in the case-full that I took there yesterday :rotfl: They have a tradition of Football Fridays and the kids can wear them to school (uniforms on the other days), in fact during the run up and the world cup EVERYBODY embraced football Friday. The shop assistants in Pick'n'Pay, the bank staff and all the little shops too.
Popeye went into the bank one day and they were all wearing the shirts so he asked why, and the reply was "It's Football Friday", he answered "But it is Saturday today" (it was!) :rotfl::rotfl: I love Africa
I've been brainstorming with Popeye and we're arranging a meeting with the IT man at his work, hopefully Monday afternoon but also with their Business Development person..... On Tuesday I go back to the orphanage with our instructions for the web-site  Also we have a form to fill in so that the Orphanage can benefit from a loyalty points card at Woolworths (Like M&S here) where you nominate the school/charity project/environment project to support as you shop.......
Everything is just growing exponentially, when I read your post MG about doing a UK tour of schools and picking up football shirts en route I felt tired and emotionalI really could weep at the kindness and support on this thread :A
What I'd like now is a title for this Football [STRIKE]Shirts[/STRIKE] strips for Orphans campaign.....but I can't think of anything catchy or original......0 -
The other two things I would suggest are:
Don't forget the power of positive affirmations - write out your 3 or 5 positive statements for the day and repeat them throughout the day - the only thing is that you must say them with the belief that they are true - I have heard some people say "yeah, yeah, I am a strong positive woman, what evvvvverrrrr" type thing - not exactly the attitude I was looking for!!
Also, if you ever want instant confidence, visualise a circle in front of you - about the size of a hula hoop. In that hoop, place all the good things you want to have with you - confidence, energy, fun, butterflies, pink glitter, basically anything that will make you smile inside and give you the feel good factor. Then take a step inside the hoop so you are standing in amongst the glitter and butterflies, and pick up the hoop, lifting it all the way up your body and over your head, so that you are now surrounded from top to toe with those fabby things......and away you go, taking all those fab feelings with you.
This also works well with children, who can also make it into a magical cloak that no one can see. Is great for children who lack confidence or are generally feeling a bit "meh" about things.
Hope these things help!!
Loving this, so thank you, am going to try this. Am terrible for letting other peoples negativity get to me.0 -

Will do - should I be bringing forward the launch of our web-site, or can it wait until November 13th?
At the moment the only mention I can find on the internet is confirmation that it is a registered charity and a slightly out of date description of the work it does.0 -
I'm happy to help however I can whenever I can
Glad I've got a girl who's not remotely interested in football (all those man-made fibres, lol) but will start asking anyone I know for old shirt so that when the distribution gets going I can hopefully contribute.

Good grief, is Olive doing the shred????? Faints.................................................................. :PBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -

OK, I just had to go downstairs and tell Popeye what's going on.
He said "crikey" and I've leaked again
A cup of tea, and I'm calming down.
And I'm trying to work out where to ask people to send these kits - how much space should I be aiming for? A shed, a spare room, or a school gymnasium? :rotfl:0 -
