That makes my two safety pins (back to my old Girl Guide days!) look pretty boring then :rotfl:

Lara.....sorry you are finding things so difficult with the challenges, but what is happening is that you are creating a negative spiral. You are thinking of what you can't do rather than what you can. You are looking at your "baggage" without looking at how life will be in the future without it.

Everything has an equal and opposite....so what I would do is to perhaps get a bit of A4 paper, and draw a line down the middle. Down the left side, write the things that you mentioned in your post....whether physical stumbling blocks, mental blocks, baggage, etc.

then on the right side, directly opposite, write the positive "spin" on it, and start to focus on the positive elements of what you want, and once you start thinking positively you will start working out how to get those good things and good feelings. Look at the right hand column and as you see the words, picture the things or the actions in your mind.

However, whilst you are saying "I don't deserve it", you won't make any progress. so the next thing I would suggest is that you think of 3 or 5 things that you would love to have - really positive, really beneficial things that will make you feel good for so many reasons.

Now, say out loud "I am a good person, and I deserve good things to happen to me" AND BELIEVE THAT STATEMENT.

Now, picture those 3 or 5 things that you would love to have, and as you are picturing them, say to yourself "I am a good person, and I deserve good things to happen to me" and BELIEVE IT!

I know it is not easy to make that leap when you have had so much negativity around you for so long, but it is possible to exchange the negativity for positivity, but you have to concentrate on developing that skill, which will take you so so far in life!

    Hope that helps x

You are so right macgirl - i think thats what so cool about pulling the challenges out and listing them elsewhere - then they are available for us to pop in and pick one up whenever we are in need of a boost.

yesterday i have a revelation about money - i actually have stopped fearing it (or lack thereof:D) and now have moved onto respecting the things that money can do for me and my family and as a consequence feel the glimmers of repect (and maybe a little pride in my work that could be used to create our future)

my book sales blessing has been just that - a complete 108 turnaround for me in valuing the knowledge and skills that i have - but have hidden for years. every little brick in that foundation will be used to build a strong and stable future for my family i promise you.

starting today - i move forward with the courage to go and find out what i am truly worth in a global market - (little gulp!!!! just a little bit of acting as if here:D)

the even better news is thatthe storecupboard holds up well - as does the stash in my freezer. bless the os ladies who told me "build a storecupboard against the bad times" how right were they:T

.............and this morning i watched the tractors drive past with all the tattie boxes on the trailer. which means - HARVEST TIME :j:j:j So as soon as they are out of the ground and dried a little it will baked potato city here at memorygirl manor. i know how excited am i getting about fresh tatties - but they really do taste so much better and of course are pretty easy on my purse too.

DS1 has alreay requested a tattie week of all his favourites

    Mon stovies
Tuesday bubble n squeak, sausage and red onion gravy
wed baked potato and bean chilli
    thurs gnocchi anf tomato sauce
    friday cheese potato gratin
    saturday tattie and beef soup
sun - roast tatties and sunday dinner

................and looking at my stores that week is already shopped for -:j apart from the milk, veggies and fruit of course.

Boys fed and watered ,packed lunch done and first load of washing sloshing away. Ready to hit the ground for the school run and a rock n roll day.

BTW my kitchen is still shining:T

It was really interesting the tidying up your purse challenge. I had nothing as interesting in my purse as purple (my favourite colour :) ) sequins. Just a couple of receipts. I, however, removed a couple of scrunched up notes from my jeans pocket and put them away in my purse - where they should be so I don't risk losing them. Not a wasted exercise then.

I've been thinking a bit about money lately. Having used MSE for a while now, I've become pretty much a control freak regarding my budget etc, and the thought that has come to mind is not that I don't respect money (although examining my feelings about it I'm not sure I do either) but it's the sheer frustration that I feel about it. When I was younger I used to think that money was not important, not needed to have a happy life... Fool that I was!

My frustration comes from the fact that I don't earn as much money as I wish (I'm working on it) but also, and perhaps mainly, the outside factors that drain my money from me. And being the mother of a teenager about to embark on a university course in a few months, it's not going to stop either!

  • Okay... done my handbag...and my purse. The strangest thing that came out of them was probably the rosary and small booklet of "Devotions to Our Lady". I am a chruch going, practising Catholic (well, everyone has their faults!! :)) but it is a rather odd item to find in a handbag. Please don't think I whip them out and rattle the beads at passing people. I really don't. They are in my handbag so that if I happen to be in an accident, and am badly injured, they will know I am a Catholic and get me the last rites. Slightly morbid, but practical.

My handbag is now looking very spruce. And my purse... well, the good news is that it is crammed full of loyalty cards and divvy cards and only three cards which are plastic cash! There was a time when the balance was completely the other way! :) Yay me!

Should I be given a gold (or purple sequined) star or be pitied for the fact that I turn out my handbag roughly once a week so there was nothing outrageous in there?!?

As part of a post that I lost yesterday, I wanted to publicly thank Happytogetdebtfree and Cherisong for coming to my aid for my Universe requests last week re: laptop and VA career. You're both complete angels and I hope that one day I can help you or be able to "pay it forward" and help someone else with their needs xx

I think people buy from people...if that makes sense? Not really great at explaining things, but MG has given us a glimps of her life through this thread, and that makes us relate to her. I bought the book, not because i needed it (not studying or anything) but because it was a way i could offer my support in a practical way.

Agreed, I am studying part time (law) but my main reason for buying it was that I wanted to help BUT the book arrived today:T (5 minutes ago literally) and it looks amazing. It looks like something that will definitely help me. It also looks much better than the Tony Buzan book I have.

If I hadn't bought it last week to help MG out with her cashflow crisis I'd be wanting it now because everyone here seems to be getting into mind-mapping and everyone's on about how good it is so I'd want one to see what all the fuss is about.

pps, for those who like the secret and that style of thing the new film eat pray and love is based around that theory, its talked baout in a seminar i heard of i cant be too sure but its highly recommended i have the book :) x

It's out on 24th Sept (In Ireland), perhaps someone can confirm the UK date, it's probably the same date and I can't wait:j

I was thinking last night about you and your halogen oven. I hate the big oven in this house, it does not seem to work properly and I was wondering how I could get round cooking OH's Sunday supper without using it......suddenly it came to me in a blinding flash.................I have a panny combi microwave, I roast most things in a bag, so I can still use the delay timer on the panny to start cooking the meat on auto pilot, no messy tins to clean up, its all in the bag, things like roast veg I can do in the remoska. I just need to foreward plan the pudding; if we are having crumble it will have to go in before the meat, it will still be warm when we come to eat it especially if I leave it on the top of the panny whilst its doing it stuff. I use a seamer for the veg, so a steamed pudding could cook in the bottom with the veg on the top......way to go.....

I plan to clean out my purse and handbag this morning after I have hung out the washing and made the macoroni cheese for supper tonight. I was very spendthrift earlier this year when I bought joint memebrship of the NTS. I was cross that we have not used it and have had it for 6 months, so this afternoon we are going to Newhailes House, by Mussleburgh.....we get in free, its reciprical in England so may be we will plan a visit somewhere when we are down in a couple of weeks, we could maybe go to Calke Abbey. I need to have a butchers at the web site and see when it closes for the winter.

Have a lovely day every one xx
