Lara, did you get the study one? Please let me know whether it is useful for PhDs - I have about 50 first years starting and as you know they can do with all the help they can get (apart with a very good course in epistemology that is).

I want to stay home today and tidy to be ready for Thursday but have to go to work.
I have been thinking recently about going back to self employment. I used to be years ago but I was very young and things in life happen which meant it wasn't right at the time. Anyway a collegue rents a lovely unit which is not used on saturdays and it let out to others and she has offered me use of it. I have been thinking a lot recently about running sewing/pattern drafting classes and it would be a perfect space to do this. I believe the universe is telling me something so I have decided to seriously look into this even if it means carrying on with my job during the week and doing the extra on Saturdays.
Sorry I will stop waffling. My head is full of thoughts and I can seem to string words together.
We will all get what we desire and deserve.
Thanks to all of you. x:A
i think thats a cracking idea - i did a two day pattern cutting course, where the first day was making a master pattern that fitted you - and the second manipulating the pattern and making a patterns for a straight pencil skirt and pair of trousers that fit absolutely perfectly.
mum and I stayed in a b&B becasue it was in Crewe - but coffee, tea and home baking was provided and you had to bring a packed lunch.
I still use the techniques - in fact even used them to make costumes for drag queens - lol
i love making clothes

. I'm off to Kampala, Uganda for my PhD research on 2nd October. I'm going for 5 months, but I'll be back for Christmas. I'm studying mobile phone repair shops, so I will somehow have to find repair shop people and convince them to tell me about the work they do. That's my 100 day challenge. .
right then guys - over to you wonderful people.
who do you know - who may know someone that has contacts of any kind in kampala???
lets build a safety net around lara so that she can concentrate on doing the best research she can for her phd - and then of course she can come back and write it in record time.

As to getting support - I am more that ready to talk to you about anything (including practicalities around you research; you probably realise that I might know your supervisors) and pledge my support.

i wish every phd student had you around - it would keep them all on track and motivated thats for sure during those dark hours of the night when you think you will never complete it.

The only people I kind of know in Kampala are a Christian Group called L'Arche. They run communities all over the world for the mentally and physically handicapped, and have a house in Kampala. I am afraid I know very little about it, other than they tend to have westerners doing the work in the house. A friend of mine from University worked with them out there for about a year. He passed away unfortunately, so I can't ask him. But Lara, if you want to look them up, I am sure you will find a very warm welcome."A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440

I've been so inspired by this thread, i'm going to get my house ship shape clutter free and decorated throughout by xmas
although due to having cerebral palsy and a slipped disk in my back, and dh working very long hours 7 days a week, it may take much longeralthough i'm going to have a dam good try.
I've decided to start in the kitchen, much needed after a leaky roofwe have white paint here for the ceiling and still some turquoise paint for the walls. and a new tin of white gloss paint.
at the moment the kitchen is full of tools and clutter from the bathroom being renovated (still not finished but we have run out of supplies and money at the moment, so it will have to wait, its tidy and livable and its only very minor cosmetic work needs doing.
so far this morning i have
all work surfaces clean and clutter free (apart from appliances) still need to clean appliances
floor brushed
animals fed
dishwasher on
still need to
clean appliances
declutter windowsill and clean (dh will have to clean can't reach)
clear off tops of fridge freezers (dh's job)
empty behind door
clear under breakfast table so it can be used.
clear corner by fridge freezers.
hopefully by the weekend it will be sorted ready to paint
any ideas on how to clean mould off blinds? don't want to go out and buy more, when the old ones work, just look a bit sad.
and how to i spruce up with soft furnishings a triangle window?
belly hell woman - slow down - its 100 shopping day to christmas yet :rotfl: - actually thats probably not far off the truth:eek:
be kind to yourself - this is gonna be a marathon not a sprint.
as for your blinds - what kind are they??
