Hey Everyone
I have posted before but just changed my name so I can post some more personal stuff (my old name was almost my whole real name). I am so excited about what has been happening here and also about Mr Big! I would love to play when I am able to. I'm off to Kampala, Uganda for my PhD research on 2nd October. I'm going for 5 months, but I'll be back for Christmas. I'm studying mobile phone repair shops, so I will somehow have to find repair shop people and convince them to tell me about the work they do. That's my 100 day challenge. I'm leaving my fiance, friends and family at home, and I am really nervous about it. I've never done such a big trip, let alone having to actually achieve something wonderful while I am there. If I could come and join in for support that would be really amazing.
I will definitely get down with some cleaning before tomorrow. We just moved into our new house in March. Before we just rented a room together, so even with all our clutter from the last place, it's still looking pretty minimalist :rotfl: BUT we still have loads of DIY to to, eek! I've almost got everything ready to go to Uganda, just need to put in my visa forms this morning, get some prescription sunglasses, and get some uni books to take with me, oh and my prescription for anti-malarials.:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
I have not really had time to read the whole thread, but feel a bit down about the cleaning bit. I work full time as a cleaner and the last thing I can do is start cleaning when I get home as I am so low on energy.

Hi Lara, please try not to be nervous about the fieldwork - I am sure the trip will be fine (just be sensible and careful) and you will collect an abundance of data (keeping in mind the ways to analyse it, of course). As to getting support - I am more that ready to talk to you about anything (including practicalities around you research; you probably realise that I might know your supervisors) and pledge my support.

Lara, how exciting and brave of you. I am sure that you will be fine. Been to uganda (very short trip and only to an island with no water, electricity) and loved it. I think that you should definitely check in here from time to time for all the support that you might want.
Larmy, dont feel down. If you are like the other professional cleaners that I know your idea of a messy house is my idea of a palace. As long as you feel happy with it as it is then you are fine. I am wondering really if the challenge was a metaphorical - clear the decks kind of thing. Once you feel happy and comfortable with where you are then you can be extremely productive. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Of course there is! We don't advocate having a perfectly tidy home, we are purely clearing the decks so we can approach our next challenge with a clear mind and a clear work area. Or something like that. Besides, it won't take long to clean stuff up if you make it fun. I like to crank up the music and dance like an idiot whilst dusting. It amuses the cats and gets the job done nice and quickly! :rotfl:Oh, and the neighbours leave you well alone too because they all think you are insane!"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -
Technology help is needed. The blog publishes my whole name which is probably not idea (although not a disaster either). I would prefer it if it does not. How do I do that (given that my proper name appears under my picture but when I post the name the world knows me by is published). Advice on how to change this greatly apreciated.

I think it is to do with your personal settings from your original log in, ie if you became a follower using your Yahoo account, it would take whatever info you had displayed on there. ???0

£20-25 per hour - also don't forget to take into account that you may have travel expenses/ travel time if you tutor at your client's home, so don't be afraid to ask for the upper end of this figure.LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

I've been so inspired by this thread, i'm going to get my house ship shape clutter free and decorated throughout by xmas
although due to having cerebral palsy and a slipped disk in my back, and dh working very long hours 7 days a week, it may take much longeralthough i'm going to have a dam good try.
I've decided to start in the kitchen, much needed after a leaky roofwe have white paint here for the ceiling and still some turquoise paint for the walls. and a new tin of white gloss paint.
at the moment the kitchen is full of tools and clutter from the bathroom being renovated (still not finished but we have run out of supplies and money at the moment, so it will have to wait, its tidy and livable and its only very minor cosmetic work needs doing.
so far this morning i have
all work surfaces clean and clutter free (apart from appliances) still need to clean appliances
floor brushed
animals fed
dishwasher on
still need to
clean appliances
declutter windowsill and clean (dh will have to clean can't reach)
clear off tops of fridge freezers (dh's job)
empty behind door
clear under breakfast table so it can be used.
clear corner by fridge freezers.
hopefully by the weekend it will be sorted ready to paint
any ideas on how to clean mould off blinds? don't want to go out and buy more, when the old ones work, just look a bit sad.
and how to i spruce up with soft furnishings a triangle window?Boiler pot £30.92/£10000
