Memorygirls - Make Do and Mend

well a productive day in the end - dragged from the jaws of - well a very windy Scotland and grumpy toddler.
My target room today was the kitchen and i have tidied, decluttured, wiped, soaked, scrubbed, polished, scraped (the oven door) defrosted, catalogued and shined my sink:rotfl::rotfl:
I have even cleaned the light-fitting, the sockets and the lightswitch - as well as the doors, woodwork and walls.
the only thing i haven't done is the floor - it needs to be scrubbed by hand and then a coat of sealant applied. i'm going to see if granny will take ds2 for a couple of hours whilst i don the gloves and get stuck in.
as for a place to work - well i do actually have a room we call "the office" here. trouble is that it is about as far away from ds2's room as you can get and on a seperate floor from where he plays.
i am going to drag out a bureau that i was going to shabby up and pullit into the kitchen where by default i end up doing most of my work. the laptop is usually perched on the kitchen worksurface and i type standing up away from little fingers but close enough to keep an eagle ear open for him iyswim.
i can tuck everything away into that for the time being - i guess as he gets older it will be easier to work in my office, but i can't settle being too far away from him.
i have been taught how to post pictures in the blog - so i will honestly report the before and afters of each room as i "clear the decks". I took a whole series of pictures this morning - so it was looing its absolute worst seeing as we slept in.
tomorrow I tackle the livingroom and the bathroom - maybe even moving on to my bedroom:cool: - and theres a great story about that.
off to put the kids to bed - if i'm not back soon its because i got distracted by something that needs to be shiny:rotfl::rotfl:

someone (and you know who you are) was on the edinburgh - glasgow train this morning about 11am.
how do I know that??? Because i've just been contacted by the training manager of one of the big accountancy firms in glasgow asking if i can help them get their trainees better able to manage their workload.
apparently you were reading the book and she noted down the title and the authors name and tracked me down in cyberspace.
so thank you whoever you are - it seems like the universe is conspiring to play along with us on this isn't it.
mgOk, this is seriously freaking me out now
. Am off on holiday to Spain tomorrow - if I see someone reading it there I think I'll faint

I was sitting next to a lovely thai gentlemen - who turned out to be really senior in the thai education service - so my next trip ended up being to thailand.

Memory_Girl wrote: »I'm sorry chevalier - i meant to come back and answer your question and things got kind of crazy for a moment.
I woke at three this morning having had a dream about a very small boy in armour practicising his jousting by tilting at books hanging on ropes :rotfl::rotfl:. of course I then remembered your question about your little un.
boy - you've gotta love your subconscious!!!!!!!
so - is it suitable for a nine year old - well yes and no. If you are a family who work together on things and would look at learning how to study as a family project (say a couple of hours every sunday for two or three weeks) then absolutely YES!!!
by you all working through it together and helping him put his files together and then slowly making mind-maps the way you do things - planning days out, bigger holidays, weekly schedules, shopping list etc he will grow up in possesson of some of the most powerful learning tools. and his teachers will absolutely recognise what it is that he is doing - they may just not be confident enough to teach it.
btw my - just ten year old - has endless hours of amusement learning stuff on memory systems and dazzling us with his brilliance in the car. ok at the moment what floats his boat is pokemon - but it is all great practice. bear in mind that ds1 is in a montessori school and in the next three years he will be covering the stuff ususally coverred in the first four years at high school, so i have introduced these techniques quite early.
if on the other hand you are like a family i dealt with recently who wanted to buy a book for their son and then consider him "fixed" then, i'm afraid no age is going to be appropriate.
but if you work through the book and then leave it with him - then yes he will understand the principles, the techniques and the language is pretty straight forward anyway.
hope this helps

Ive been following your diary for a while now and was wondering how to get hold of your book,as i would like a copy.
i found myself reading your diary into the small hour's ( not good as i dont take it all in ). im about to go into my final year at uni and need to knuckle down so i need to be mega organised. last year was not good as i had a death in the family so my heart wasnt in it and only just got through.
i have found your threads so inspireing and this has given me the motivation i needed. ive been raising my 4 children for the past 7 years after i split from their dad and this can be hard at times but by taking some of your ideas,( i now have a slow cooker and the bread maker has been dusted off) i found that things have got easier. :TDee:rotfl:0 -
I want a shiny house and a pretty 1950's frock! I suspect the latter will be easier and might inspire me to produce the former! Right, I'm going to put on a frock and some lippy for absolutely no good reason other than it makes me feel fantastic!

I didn't expect to ever come back, but I am now coming to expect the unexpected.
After finding my faith again, and I have to say it feels amazing, I never gave MSE a thought for a few weeks, but although 'man doesn't live on bread alone', a bit of it does help, and I have made a commitment to Firewalker to complete my £100.00 to £10,000 challenge by the 31st December 2010, which I now feel I need to keep.
First thing I looked at a couple of days ago was your post from Mystery Man, and although I have to admit I was a bit concerned that he might be just concerned about profit, I now believe he has a very big heart and a huge amount of good will be accomplished.
I'll help you in any way I can Memory Girl.
xxx Ex Scrooge.
How I missed you and I am so pleased you are back, ButterflyDawn. I wanted to thank you for your last post as Scrooge - it means a lot to me. Hope the challenge is going well - I am readying the party.

I am just back and can see that everyone has been busy, active and creative. And the main thing - having fun. All firnds are back - new friends to get to know.
MG I am sorry to hear about DS2. Spooky coincidence but Little Boy had a very bad fall at school today as well - reputedly (he was asleep whenI got back) he has really serious bruises and scrapes. Even his Head Master offered to leave the room so he can use naughty words. Also, I suspect that after this cleaning franzy you will need to get someone to do that - Mr. Big said that this is the clean up which I doubt means that you should have your house cleaned for the forseable future - only that it is not you who should do it. You will be focusing on the two main things - boys and adventure.
I can go to bed happy.

Gally That is not good, but hopefully like you say there will be some positive from it.
Butterfly Dawn I am another who missed you and i am so glad to see you posting again. I keep checking for your posts as Scrooge. Highly appropriate to change your name as you are so different now.
Memory girl sorry to hear about DS2s bump. I have nearly had that happen before when i had the rain cover on and a tiddly baby. I didn't think it would happen with a toddler. Crazy how powerful nature is. I am sure he won't remember anything about it tomorrow apart from the biscuit if he is like my DS2.0
