MG, how fast things change when you set your mind to fourth gear. Well done on seeing all of the opportunities that are being placed before you. As for forgetting us when you are rich, famous and reclining by the pool, well I have news for you. I can't wait for the book.
Have a dilemma that i want to think through myself and maybe someone can help on here.
Job 1- that was my main job for just over a year- working in the community with children who are out of school for one reason or another. My mum also worked for them as well as a close friend. Both of them were let go, for very tenuous reasons. I also found that as i was not on a permanent contract, then some of my cases went to other staff( who have a contract- again an iffy one) which left me with little work after GCSE's.
Job 2- school approached me after seeing my work with two pupils in school to work with them doing virtually the same thing as job 1, but exclusively with an autistic pupil- it is part time, but pays better as i am on mainscale pay for County.
Now the dilemma- Job 1-i wasn't happy re the way staff have been treated. My line manager doesn't want to lose me, but i feel very torn about it all. She has asked me to do part time and consider it.
Job 2- i will still do, as i love it and it is the way i want to go,but i am torn as both jobs are essentially the same, and together make a good wage. However, i feel very negative about the first job given that two people who i know do an excellent job have gone.
What should i do?Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Right, my considered opinion. You can do both jobs, right? Are you turning down another opportunity if you stick with job 1? Did you enjoy job 1, forgetting all the politics? If the answers are yes, no and yes then I would take the job and see if the positives about it outweigh the negative residual feelings. If they do and you leave you will be no worse off - but imagine if the senior personnel all changed in the next few months and you had turned the job down. Make it clear to job 2 you would be happy to consider more hours if they came up (unless you feel it would be a good mix to have in & out school posts?).
Good luck and karma type positive thoughts & stuffA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Just ask yourself what will make you happy? If you are feeling so negative about the first job are the reasons strong enough to continue if you stay there or is it a temporary feeling that you will get over? Sleep on it, write down the question on a piece of paper and put it aside. The answer will come to you. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Alternatively toss a coin - heads you take it, tails you don't. Go with what you instinctively wish for when it's in the air, rather than how it lands. Works for meA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I will consider it carefully, in fact that is all i seem to be doing. I have wasted a lot of energy on it over the summer and before if i am truthful.I have made my feelings clear to my manager, i am also talking to my immediate manager tomorrow- who is pretty good at letting me know the inside gen on things. So i will make a decision then. .
Won't hijack any longer.
Thanks very much for your replies. xBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
