Wedding Gift List - hostility

Interestingly I was reading Brides magazine this evening and our very own Martin :money: was in there suggesting that people should ask for cash.0

I ran a poll on the discussion time forum and nearly half of the voters were unhappy about being given a gift list when attending a wedding.
Perhaps the poll would come across as less negative and stingy if this wasn't a money saving site...

Everything was expensive of course so I did something else. I noticed Matalan had 20% off homeware and free delivery last weekend so I consulted the wedding list and saw the colour scheme they wanted for the bedroom and that they have a double bed and I bought a beautiful embelished duvet set and sheets and extra pillow cases to match. Somehow it looks much better than a milk jug for a set that might not even be complete, or vouchers!
Here's hoping they like poly/cotton bedding

But we're all about getting best value from our money too.... and if that means influencing the gifts a bride & groom will receive to avoid the situation of 3 toasters 4 knife sets and a piece of "unusual" glassware, then surely that is maximising their value to both the giver and the receivers?
And that was on the DT board.....so I guess not as many brides / grooms to be on there as on here!0 -
We are asking for money as our giftlist. Other half's family have said we should have a trad list as well, but we really dont need anything, we just wnat money towards our honeymoon. can't ask for vouchers as booked through an independent travel agent. Apparently some people will think it rude we've asked for money, but if thats the case they can buy us a vase or nothing at all - i dont want to create a list for the sake of it!2011 biggies: £1000 holiday,£100 all saints voucher, £200 ticketmaster, Links London bracelet, Ted Baker watch, £50 Oliver Bonas
2011 aim - win enough to save up for baby items!
2009 wins total £2623 inc break in Iceland!
2010 wins total £6430 inc break in Dubai!0 -
Everything we own throughout our married life has been bought with our own money and through our hard work. Couples today should learn from our experience and when they divorce, as is usually the case, they should return every penny back.
What a old bat! Couples today!!! As though all couples are as rude as the people she "chooses" to associate herself with.
And as for getting your money back when if (sorry when) they divorce, how heartless and vile.
Some people really need to get a grip.Bump due 22nd September0 -
