In the past I would have agreed about only sitting in front of the TV when actually watching something.

However, since getting married, in the interests of marital bliss I'll quite often spend the evening sitting on the sofa while her indoors watches her shows.
How long have you been together for as I still find its more enjoyable doing things "together"
  • Looking like UK price will be £429.

So unless dollar rates carry on plummeting it will be significantly cheaper in US.

    Hmmmm....

We do things together, but I'm not going to tell my wife she can't watch a TV show I don't want to watch.

Directly comparing prices in $ to £ isn't accurate. The US prices don't include the sales tax that would be applicable depending on where you are ordering from, and you need to include VAT on the UK amount. When you do that the final price works out at a shade less than £30 different which is fairly reasonable.

Not sure how you get £30 difference.
    $499 + 6% sales tax= $529 at today's Visa rate ( I don't pay any charges) = £353

Price here £429 inclusive of VAT. No vat or import duty to pay (under£390 allowance), so a difference of £76

unless dollar rate changes, which I will keep an eye on.

"and you need to include VAT on the UK amount" If the VAT wasn't included in the UK price it would be a BIGGER difference.

To be honest I only skim read the thread and I didn't realise you were going to buy abroad, I was doing a like for like comparison if you walked into a shop in the US and a shop in the UK.

Word of warning...Dont expect to be able to go into the Apple shop and buy one over the counter...I tried to buy one when I was in Vegas a couple of weeks ago.I was able to order one but had to wait for an email telling me it was available at the store to pick up ....However I was back in the UK before I got the email.

Sounds like it might be worth getting stateside. Which one will you be going for. I'll be getting 16GB Wifi model as there will clearly be something new next year.

Me too Littlepanther- 16GB should be fine for me.

I have chance to visit 7 stores if necessary (doing a bit of touring) and I believe that since the release of the 3G some pressure has been taken off the sales of the wi-fi, but if I don't manage to get one I won't pay the extra duty etc. to have it imported. I'll just have to accept it's not for me.

I acknowledge it isn't a perfect fit for everything and to me it's an extravagance (which is nice) so I will have to decide what I am willing to pay as the dollar rate is dropping by the day too.

I've not seen one 'in the flesh' yet, so if that happens to me it will save me a whole lot of cash! :rotfl:

Just had a thought- if I do manage to get one, what's the betting I'll be back here nagging the goolies off everyone again asking for help to sort it out- I'm not familiar with Apple. :o
