Not so. Apple's warranty is international. We were told this in the US and have put it to the test. We travel to the US fairly regularly and have bought a few Apple products for the kids over the years. My daughter's MacBook had a couple of problems which the Apple shop in Manchester were more than happy to deal with.0

Jeanniebeanie, it seems you had already made your mind up to buy before your post. If you want one, get one. But you are right about unbiased opinion on all things Apple, it doesnt seems to exist. Enjoy your iPad !!!0

I WAS pretty keen, yes, but not being a teckie at all I was hoping to gather a bit more unbiased info. The replies on here have made me think and led me to some informative reviews, as well as opened my eyes a bit to how Apple operates so glad I posted. As I said, I don't feel I have much to lose with the resale value over here while it is still new out, so yes NOW my mind is made up.
Thanks to all who replied.0 -
i like the look of it but it seems to big to carry aroundReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

Well, I think that's the source of some of the complaints, people are seeing it as trying to create a new niche that really isn't needed, rather than trying to fill an existing niche, so it's an extra product that many would consider as unnecessary.
I love the idea that a device for farting around on Facebook (which is what most people do online), could be "needed".
I think they should be trying to push it as a replacement for netbooks, innovation in interface design is long overdue. Whether the iPad is the answer to this... I think I'll reserve judgement a bit longer.
That's exactly what Apple are pushing it as.beardiedog wrote: »I, for one, hope that the iPad will be an iFlop.
Better get your time machine out and go back to before it sold twice as fast as the iPhone.
If you go into Best Buy here, every 5 minutes, you'll hear someone ask "do you have any iPads in stock?". When they are in stock, they sell out within a few minutes. There are still people who are queuing up outside before stores open when they hear they will have some in stock, and it has been a month since it was released. The number of old ladies I've see queuing makes me think that it's not just "fanboys" buying them.
The iPad is a ridiculously successful product.
Sorry about that.0 -
There's an interesting, non-techie, review of the iPad here
I'd still like to have a play with one but at the moment I don't see it fulfilling a need for me as I don't think there's an iPad shaped hole in my life. I can see how it would suit some people though. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
There's certainly a "something that's not a laptop" hole in my life.
I've always disliked laptops; they're heavy, uncomfortable to rest on your lap, and I loathe trackpads. I also have terrible eyesight (even with my glasses on), and trying to hold the screen closer so I can actually read what it says is a pain.
For the sort of things I would do sitting on the sofa, an iPad is ideal.0 -

I'd agree with all that apart from the last sentence. I only sit on the sofa to watch specific TV programs or to read and if I'm doing either I don't want to be messing around on the net or email etc.
If I want ot use a computer I prefer to use the desktop which is on (well under but you knwo what I mean) a desk.
The odd moments where I want net access and I can't get a the computer I can use my phone but they're pretty infrequent.
I only use a laptop on a desk as they're just rubbish balanced on your lap.
It's all horses for courses really. I think if the iPad was considerably cheaper or someone brings out a decent competitor that is much cheaper it would be worth a punt but I can't currently justify the price for something that I think would get very little use. It's my problem, it's my problem

In the past I would have agreed about only sitting in front of the TV when actually watching something.
However, since getting married, in the interests of marital bliss I'll quite often spend the evening sitting on the sofa while her indoors watches her shows.0
