    Today is NSD #12.

Totally exhausted after my shift at work (the lady on the 6am-2pm shift phoned in sick this morning, so when I got there - an hour earlier than normal so I could cover her lunch break - the place was well behind where it should be at that time of the day). Couldn't get out of the store fast enough at home time, so didn't do more than glance at the Whoopsie areas, and certainly won't be going back out -- my bed is calling me, but I need tea first which is now cooking.

Will certainly be an early night as I'm starting at 6am tomorrow (normally 7am) and am not only there until my normal 4pm, but am solo for the whole shift - the lass who works the 6am-1pm shift on a Mon thru Fri is off this week, and no-one picked up her shifts today or tomorrow  As such I'm pretty certain tomorrow will be another NSD ;)

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi everyone!

Unfortunately, after attending a wedding yesterday, I was far too tired and sore this morning to make a packed lunch to take to work, so today was a little spend day.

However, whilst at the wedding, I bumped into someone who owed me some money - he apologised profusely and paid up there and then - so I ended up leaving with more money than when I arrived, making the day a NSD day for me, bringing my total up to 9 NSDs for this month!

    Have a good evening everyone!

Yep - just like that. Suddenly realised I hadn't bitten them for 3 or 4 days, and that white bits were starting to appear at the tops of them :D

But 13 months on they're still splitting badly - which I'm guessing is partly because of the constant hand washing and cleaning at work (supermarket bakery), but also not helped by low calcium intake in my diet. I'm going to see about getting some calcium supplements, but will probably have to take iron supplements alongside them as I believe this helps the body absorb the calcium (and I also have a history of mild anaemia, which became worse during pregnancies and each pregnancy was worse than the previous).

In the meantime I've invested in some 'not cheap' nail strengthener that comes recommended by friends, along with a good quality polish remover (as it has to be taken off and restarted on a weekly basis) and expensive cuticle treatment. Been told any treatment has to be given at least 3 months to show an improvement, and only started this last week so a while to go before I know if it was worth bothering with !!!!

Let me know how it goes! My nails are longer thanthey usually are, but generally what happens is that one day I look down at them and they are gone without me even knowing I've bitten them!

Apparently no medical evidence to support it, but a number of friends report it working - so I'm trying that one as well :D

Hmmmm, I'm guessing the veggie alternative won't do the same ;).

The Betterware man arrived today and caught me unawares thus ruining my NSD - I knew I should have allocated the money on Saturday! But at least my Bicarb of Soda is safely in a box now rather than in a puny plastic bag sitting in the mop bucket to gather the spills :rotfl:.

Have been toying with the idea of starting a diary on here to put my random thoughts on, and keep track of my debt free quest - do any of you have a diary, and do you find it helps? I'm so paranoid, I'd be worried that no-one would be interested!! :) xx

I have a diary Karenut, I think more people read it than I realise/ It's great for keeping my on track and leeting me rant - and it was especially good for me when I was off woth depression - just getting the stress all out there and realising it's not just me, was extremely useful.

You don't just get my debt-busting tales though. I'm afraid being concise isn't always my favourit thing to be so you you also hear about other random things going on in my life ;).

    I'd definitely recommend it!

CW18 - Congratulatons on growing your nails. I don't know if you saw my post last week when I was chatting to LadyfromVenice about nailbiting, but I was hypnotised about 3 months ago and haven't bitten since. It's a fantastic feeling after 41 years to see lovely, elegant nails and to be able to put nice nail polish on them isn't it. For the first few weeks my nails and cuticles were really dry and sore but I kept applying hand cream every hour or so at every opportunity and now they're fine. Apparently evening primrose oil taken daily is good for splitting nails but will take several weeks to take effect. I also work in a supermarket and make sure I wear gloves at all times to protect my hands (and hide the nail polish that we're not supposed to wear!)

Forgot to say, there's a really good hand cream called "Gloves in a Bottle". Useful for people who have to wash their hands a lot.

Anyway back to the challenge.. This was another NSD for me so 10/16 :j

TBH, I'm taking a risk even wearing the nail strengthener at work. I bought the Matte version (recommended for men), but even that has a sheen to it that I notice myself......

As I'm in the bakery I can't even use creams/moisturisers - if I apply anything before work and/or in my breaks, then I have to wash my hands extra thoroughly to get rid of it as soon as I enter the bakery. Rubber gloves are available for 'intensive cleaning', but the only other time the wearing of gloves is allowed is when I'm in one of the freezers.

Not sure I'll ever have 'lovely elegant' nails, as we're not allowed long nails at work (anymore than we're allowed bitten ones), and I actually find if I don't keep them pretty "flat" I knock them on machinery and lose chunks out of them (happened to another one today :( )

I saw the chat about hypnosis, and have to say I'm another who wouldn't ever contemplate it for various reasons (aside from the cost)

Off to bed in a few minutes - got to be up at 4:30am tomorrow  Just looking forward to getting home around 4:30pm so I can declare another NSD ;)
