thrifty_fifty wrote: »Hi,
Still on 5 for me. Had my overall body assessment at OCC Health today, and my cholesterol is at verging on I need to take note area. As I am on death row food wise, I therefore reacted promptly, by going to the shop and purchasing doritos £1 spent.
Diet starts next week for the rest of my life. I will look like a squirrel eating salad and nuts. No spending, no eating, are there no pleasures left???
So I'm declaring thursday a spendy day, as I will be indulging in my last ever bag of !!!!!! de fromage (the M&S ones, amazing!), and granola bar.
I will be grumpy next week living on rabbit food, however I'll cure two evils-weight and spending, because I'll be giving up my last vice of spending on snacks. I've given up shoes.
Oh dear, thrifty fifty, sorry to hear about your cholesterol level and the change in diet.
Enjoy the cheesy puffs and granola tomorrow, I’m sure you’ll probably be able to enjoy the odd treat once you get your cholestrol back to normal levels, so probably not quite a bad as you think just now.
There are lots of pleasures apart from spending and eating - jinty’s taken up knitting, Keiss has her cross-stitch and gardening, nicca is taking up sewing - have a think when you’re feeling a bit less down about your cholesterol and I’m sure you’ll find your own distraction therapy.

Thanks for the link to the cheese story, seems as though milk may be in the same position - good timing for the milk monster to be moving on;)

Nottoobadyet: :jwell done for no 4 - that’s brilliant, keep going!
Keeping my fingers crossed that you get something sorted out quickly:)
And hello to everyone else:
katenut: hope the meeting goes well and, equally importantly, that your boss pays for everything again, fingers crossed;)......
Love the avi - is that your horse?
boultdj: going to do some digging on the cheese front - would be lost without my extra mature cheddar so may stock up tomorrow and put some in the freezer.....
Hope the shopping expedition went OK today and you got lots of bargains and yes, wouldn't a herd of cows be good right now;).....
Flickering Ember: oh dear, you do sound down in the dumps.BigMumma’s given you some great advice, maybe have a look at her post and see if that helps. This challenge is all about preventing unnecessary spending and making us think more about why and where we’re doing this - all of the things mentioned in your post I would class as necessary spends and therefore wouldn’t count them either. As BigMumma says, if we can help, or you need any support please just holler - we’re here to support each other - that’s the most important purpose of this thread:)
pure dead dopey: well done for making the doggie treats, it doesn’t sound too bad really and it’s definitely very MSE:)
elfen: fingers crossed for another one today for you and good news on the £30 from paypal:)
Tixy: thanks for the tip on the nail polish with the Coke :T- going to b00ts at the weekend, will have a look then. My nails have just started to grow back after the winter, so this could be great timing.
nicca: you’re getting very organised with your spending days - well done!:T
Your poor friend is probably so stressed, it’s no wonder she forgot the stamp! And what a pain about the shopping:(...
After my success on the car MOT front yesterday, I've managed another one today as well so I'm now at the dizzy heights of no 10:j:j and very pleased with myself as well;).
Off to do the update (and get LfV's total right) - see you all tomorrow.
'night

Morning all! Sunny but cold here, no rain tho so it's all good!
Spoon,Thanks, I really enjoyed my lunch yesterday, it was great to catch up with my friend.
Im off to get my hair done today and pick up some food for going away tomorrow. Although its spends, I dont feel too bad as they're all budgeted for. In my previous life I would NEVER have done that, I would have just slapped it all on a CC! How times have changed for me!;)
I will be packing this afternoon. We are off to the beautiful West Coast of Scotland so my packing will include wooly jumper, wellies, sandals, shorts, waterproofs, sunglasses, teeshirts and a big warm jacket. :rotfl:
I like to cover every eventuality weather wise!
As Billy Connolly once said
" there's no such thing as bad weather, it's just being caught with the wrong clothes":)
Keiss, hugs to you, you're having a bit of a rough time, just to let you know Im thinking of you:A
I'll try to check in tomorrow, but if not I'll be back in about week or so - heaven knows how many pages I'll have to catch up on!
Have a lovely day everyone!:)
you will always be rich enough to be generous.0 -
Eeeps I ended up treating myself to the new Country Living magazine yesterday, as well as something for tea for both me and DH. I know I should have been stronger but I felt carpe and cheered up a bit with the magazine..lol. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Today I know I won't be having a NSD day as I am off to Aldi to pick up one of their special offers - the silicone utensils, want to get the long tongs and a couple of turners. These are a necessity as I got told off for scratching the new frying pan yesterday..eeeps!!! And the tongs will match my lovely pink ones
I expect the next three weeks will be NSD's for me as I won't have any money..lol. No seriously I have to put some buy for the garden show at the end of the month and put some petrol in the car. So I am going to try really hard to keep to it, any help would be appreciated.
I am going to try and take up my cross stitch, so that should take my mind off spending. And I must remember to get stuff out the freezer instead of going to Asda instead!!
Well done to everyone else who managed NSD's yesterday and commiserations to us that didn't xxx

Are they going to let you thru border patrol after last time Jinty or do you have a cunning disguise :shhh: Given the reports of snow on the mountains last week, I'd think
would be a good bet
Awww
half yer Luck tho! Enjoy--whatever the weather. I've heard the scenery is stunning up there...Could you do me a favour tho & remind Arthur he still owes me for giving his seat the once over? Cheers

Folk must be busy on their fancy dress for Brighton! Have we actually decided what night we're going yet? If it's Friday again I'll need to organise reinforcements at the Sally Anne to cope with the more...thirsty..amongst us *coughcurlyspoon* but if it's the Bank Holiday Monday, it's St Johns cuz of Keiss' toe & my foot! The vary naice lowkul connstabyewlairy have agreed to keep canine units away, given that some of us are intending to turn up as Ewok, Chewbacca et al & psych students from the uni will be on hand to debrief the poor souls who think they've been invaded like an Orson Wells radio play..have I forgotten anything ..don't think so but as you can see I've been rather busy calling in favours for this, so it had better be good! I've saved the best bit till last--if our cozzies are good enough, they'll let us bring up the rear of Gay Pride:j
I've lost a day this week & thought it was Friday :doh:no real prob but I'm out of sync somewhere. Looking like a foodie-spend day for me today but yesterday brought nsd No 9.

I was exactly the same when I found out I had high cholesterol. I actually wanted to have a tantrum and cry! I take it you've had information on what foods to avoid (if you can) and which foods help?
Bad foods for Cholesterol
Offal (Liver, Kidneys)
Shellfish (prawns etc)
Eggs
Foods containing saturated fat as sat fat is converted into cholesterol by your liver (so in other words go for low sat fat)
Good foods (found to lower bad cholesterol)
Porridge Oats
Almonds
Soya products (I like Mr T's own brand unsweetened Soya Milk and think it makes porridge really creamy. There is also Tofu and Soya spreads)
Plant Sterols (So LOTS of veg and/or use a yoghurt drink)
Wholemeal versions of things like Pasta & Bread
I was found to have very high cholesterol (7) when I was 35. It scared the bee-jesus out of me and for about a year I was super-strict. I felt better and I looked better. I did reduce my cholesterol some but they realised that it was naturally high and was told that my diet was not making enough impact on it and am going to have to go on Statins when I'm around 40. I thereafter lost all motivation to follow my previously strict diet and have put on 3st!! I was doing much better when I believed I could make a difference and wished very much that that was still the case
Best of luck with it. You will get into the swing of things and find what works for you.0 -

Thanks for your hugs and kind thoughts, they are much appreciated.
I am still in two minds as to whether to make today or tomorrow my NSD...can't make both NSDs as various things need to be bought. If I spend today, I can take my friend to the garden centre..she can't make it tomorrow. Mind you, I need to do a stock-take and another 2-week meal plan, so really should do that before heading out, so I can get things I need. The plan is to make the whole weekend spend-free, so really want to make sure I get everything..
Right, will get going with the stock-take now and perhaps we CAN go out this afternoon...now there's a plan!!
Will report on how I get on tomorrow. Have a great day, lovely and sunny here, don't know how long it will last though!
