Would rather she hadn't felt she had to......
I know her through school (I volunteer in the pre-school class, and her DD was one of my "charges" last school year). Saw them going into the store while I was on my break, and went to say hello on my way back in. Was teasing DD about the fact they were buying pizza for tea (pretending to invite myself over to eat her share ;)), then talking to Mum who had hold of the trolley with her younger DS in. I suddenly spotted DD (who was standing closer to me) starting to struggle to breathe - so I grabbed her and walloped her on her back...... bringing up 3 large unchewed wine gums she'd just tried to swallow. One of our managers was in the vicinity, and must have checked with Mum they were alright as I dived off to get back to my section (having got wipes from the deli and cleaned up DD and the floor) as he then came to find me to say she'd asked him to tell me she was very grateful.

A bit later they came and found me in my section to give me the chocs as a thankyou. Told Mum I couldn't have them on the shop floor, but she'd explained to the lass on the till that she wanted to come and give them to me so had been given a reprint of the receipt which (once certified by a manager) means I'm OK with purchased merchandise. When I told her there was no need for buying me anything, she just shrugged it off with a comment about she'd "frozen on the spot and got into a panic" and didn't know what she'd have done had I not been there. As I told her though, I think it's a lot easier when it's not your own child/family who's in trouble.

I don't think I actually said a proper Thankyou though, so must try and catch her at school drop-off tomorrow morning to do so :o
Agree it was probably a bit embarrassing to accept them but she was probably so grateful for your quick reaction and maybe a bit embarrassed herself that she hadn't spotted that her daughter was in difficulty. Probably made her feel a bit better by buying you the chocs, hope you enjoyed them though?

Well done for your quick reactions, though, not sure there are many of us who would have moved that quickly:T:T

Oooh if we are going to Brighton on Bank Holiday, is it this Bank Holiday when the bikers turn up at Brighton :D Imagine all those lovely leather clad bikers..mmmmmmmmmmm

It is indeed, Natty, but I think the sight of us in our Star Wars costumes might frighten even the bikers away;);)

It's funny how instincts kick in at times like that. There have been several times in the past (mainly when collecting my own kids from school many years ago, and walking home with their friends and parents) that I've grabbed the "wrong" child to stop him/her walking out on to a busy road :o

I've done it in more recent years with the child of a local friend - but I've not yet managed to do it with a strangers' child, which I can only imagine would probably end up with insults rather than thanks ;)

Well done you cw18, quick thinking on your behalf, you certainly deserve the chocs. :T

nicca - go with the wedges, much tastier than chips as well as healthier and better for your NSDs (i've just finished some with a tasty veggie asda bean & nacho burger & stir fry veg)

thrifty fifty - is that the glamour mag with loads of comps to enter every day? if so then if you manage to win anything it will have been worth the spend!

Good morning all, happy Election Day. Trouble is, whoever you vote for, it's always the Government that gets in....

Must remember to nick my son's lightsaber for Brighton - big thing complete with green light and light saber noise, that cool or what? That reminds me :

Darth Vader : Luke, I know what you have got me for Christmas.

Luke: How do you know that, Dad?

Darth Vader : Because I felt your presence.....

It took me about four hours last night to figure out why 'batteries for a toy' was TMI. This done, burst out laughing, woke OH up and told him. Regretfully not that interesting - not that kind of toy.
