It only takes 2 minutes to load a washing machine.. and I do both at once so 3.5 minutes... the wet stuff is dumped in a basket.. and the next loads are already lined up to go in when the last lot finishes.. easy peasy.. I do huge amounts of washing (there are 10 of us.. including 2 with SN and 2 toddlers.. and hubby!)
Once the next 2 loads are underway I hang the wet stuff out, or in winter hang it up and the little things go in the dryer.. what does one do with 200 socks and 100 pairs of pants and 10 bras????
I probably do just about the most washing of anyone here.. I am a tad obsessive about it.. people get stereotyped ideas of 'large families' and this is one thing they think.. they don't have many clothes or clean clothes.. I do try to keep deterrgent (tesco value) down to a minimum, use gloop for coloured washes and minimal fabric conditioner, often adding lavendar oil instead. Most washes I try to keep to 30' as well.. so I do try.
I am wearing yesterdays jeans today.. but they have to be washed now after 2 days as they have grubby hand prints and mucky chop marks on them from the tiddlers.. not to mention the snot.
I have a vest top on.. strawberry print all over it.. so my 2 year old has spent most of the day trying to eat the strawberries.. so by lunch time I looked like a frogfest (she has BAD hayfever lol) CANNOT be worn again!!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I wash as I tend to need to do. Just two of us (plus DGSs every two or three weekends). Tend to have a big wash once a week now DH retired and no shirts. Also kids away from home so no school stuff or the shirt/blouse stuff when they were at work.
Sorry but on the whole 30 wash does not clean our stuff (and we are not dirty honest). I tend to do a gentle 40 and a gentle 50 (using eco button where necessary and Fairy when washing DGS stuff)! I also put a glug of Stardrops in if things are a bit soiled.
Only problem is that I tend to have to do 3 washes (maybe 4) at once which then creates a Mount Everest iron!
Change sheets once a fortnight (when boys come every two sleeps), towels every few days, underwear daily, tops - well depends on weather and spillage, trousers more than one wearing. Teatowels daily as white cotton cloth at sink (for hygiene reasons). Other things get washed as and when needed. When did I last do curtains???

Its odd, there are people posting on here who seem to wash things about as often as I do - ie underwear after one wear, PJ's 2x a week, sheets 2x a month etc but they are only doing 4-7 washes a week whereas I do about 21?!?!
So lets see, washing generated today;
DS (aged 2)- Bodysuit, jumper (worn for 3 mornings) trousers, socks and tshirt, cot sheet +Growbag - used for 7 nights.
Me - knickers, socks, skirt, vest top, swimming cossie,
DH - work shirt, uwear, socks, tshirt he uses as PJ (worn x3)
bath towels x2 (used 3 times), hand towelsx2 (used 5 times), teaclothsx2, dishclothx1
Bedsheet and PJ top from my bed - I have bad night sweats so have to change PJ's more often.
I've done 3 loads today, mostly catching up after the weekend when I only did 2 loads over saturday and sunday.DEBT: £500 credit card £800 Bank overdraft

I don't understand why people think that if you wash stuff after one wearing you must spend hours doing the washing. I'm with you pigpen - I wash after one wearing (pjs included). We don't have much money, but I always say you may be poor, but you don't have to be dirty.0 -
I only wash when I have a load of washing which could be every 2-3 days to try and keep up to date with my washing. Most of the washing gets done at a weekend there is usually 2 loads of darks, 1 whites and the towels.
I try to avoid doing too much washing as it creates ironing :rotfl: , however I don't do so at the cost of being "dirty"

It is just the two of us my husband is very messy however.
We have no washing machine and so visit the launderette and as somebody said before if it doesn't get doen then it will wait a week. I guess that we use 4 to 6 loads a week. It costs us a maximum of £10 a week! have to lug it any distance really makes you cut down on washing. Pants and socks are changed daily other than that it will get washed when it is dirty.0 -

I don't think you could describe people as 'dirty' if they don't wash everything after one wearing.Stompa0 -

I have just read through this thread and yes I do the same as most people washing some stuff daily and some weekly or thereabouts but I just don't get washing towels after one use? For goodness sack you have just either washed your body or showered or bathed it , the water is clean and so are you so how the heck can the towel be dirty after one use... hand towels excepted of course.. but bath towels ? come on thats a bit over the top....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I wash everything after it has been used once, which works out to 3 washes a week ( inc one for my bedding). I use my towels once , which is a bit naughty, but as they are all white, they help to make a full load of whites as I normally wear white shirts to work.0
