I always seem to have a huge amount of washing on my line when the weather is like this compared to neighbours (next door for example has 2 people more in there house)
what do you wash after one wear if this makes sense, i wash everything that has been worn, all my microfibres, teatowels and hand towels, bath towels are washed every second bath time.
Cot sheets and blankets are done every other day and oldest son and my bedding is done every 3 days
i then have my nappy wash nightly (2 in nappies)
i would love to cut my washing as it seems im forever washing, ironing folding and putting the stuff away

I'd say you do more washing than me! that sounds like loads! We're a family of 5 (me, DH, then girls 9,7 and 2). We've got two washing machines (long story), one is a 7.5kg machine and I run each machine overnight (economy 7) every night and a few more washes in the day. I think I do about 20 washes a week.
dishcloths, knickers, socks (and that's normally more than one pair per child per day - girls  ) get washed after a day's use
dd3's clothes normally only last a day - she's 2 and muckky! if they still look clean they get worn again though
flannels and tea towels get changed every other day (more often if obviously grubby)
clothes wise, we wear them until they look or smell dirty. So school uniform for dd1 (9) and dd2 (7) normally gets changed midweek, although more often if needed (summer dresses don't seem to last long!). DH and I normally wear clothes for more than a day.
Bath towels get changed once per week (more often if they look obviously dirty). Hand towels get changed a bit more often, but normally we have three in the bathroom and I change them as needed (if we had only 1 in there it would probably be done daily).
The bigger girls swim at swimming club and dd1 also with school. Swimming towels get washed after one use, costumes washed once per week.
Sheets and bedding get changed every other week, except for accidents (we have a bedwetter) when they get done the next morning.
I do a nappy wash for dd3 every 3-4 days.
I don't iron either0 -
Yeah - sounds about the same as me fizzel. All clothes washed after one wear. Tea towels, flannels and so on washed daily. My bedding once a week, childrens every other day, or every day if there is an "accident".
Bath / hand towels i normally do every other day.
My ironing pile is always sky high, as i iron most things - i think clothes especially look so much better with creases in the sleeves and with that "pressed" look. I also iron my sheets, but that's my luxury - I have heavy linen sheets and love getting into clean, ironed smooth sheets - real luxury.
I expect we're just particular, eh? I'm sure my clothes would be fine wearing them more than one day, I just can't bring myself to do it. My mum used to make us wear things more than one day, and I can remember being teased at school for smelling, so I guess i'm obsessional now lol:DLive on £4000 for 2008 Challenge No. 27:eek:0 -
The only clothing I wash after a single wear are socks and knickers. In the summer, I also wash t-shirts/vests after a single wear. Everything else gets worn until it looks/smells in need of a wash!
I wouldn't wash bedding any more than once a week, barring accidents or spills. It can go longer than a week if it's not been too hot and sweaty. Towels also roughly once a week; a bit more frequently if they smell dirty sooner.0 -
I'm with Ytaya.
I reckon if you've sweated in it, it needs washing! But everything else goes in when it looks or feels dirty. You just know when something needs a wash. Towels and bedding once a week. Tea towels go in a bucket of lemon water (to get rid of the tomato and curry stains!) at the rate of one every two or three days then all get thrown in one big 60c wash every two weeks!Aiming to pay off mortgage by my 30th birthday... £39438 to go!

Hi fizzle,
The ideas on these older threads might help you to cut back your washing:
Wash Day Blues
How many loads of washing a week?
How many wears before a wash?
How often do you wash your towels?
washing bedding

It's sad to say but there are only 3 of us in our house hold (no baby) and i do a minimum of 21 washes a week. (not including sofa covers, another story!)
If i dare take a day off from housework i end up with 8 piles of dirty washing lined up in my hall, the embrassesment of it when people arrive un announced to see it
And this will make you feel better i have even been sad enough to drive home at lunch time just to put washing in the dryer and a new load in the machine.
I would like a magic washing fairy, one that puts the washing away (to stop the jumble sale look in my bedroom), it would also be great if it ironed because i don't, with the exception of nights out, uniform and holidays.
Sorry i don't have and solution for your problem but my gran of 91yrs says we had a wash day and if it wasn't washed then it waited till next wash day.
Good for her
ok off to the washer AGAIN!!

Underwear and socks do one day, more often if been to gym; tops generally only do 1 day (I'm a messy eater!); trousers may do a couple of days, depends if I've been gardening or not.
I have a clean tea towel and dishcloth daily and bedlinen changed weekly, clean hand and bath towels every other day.
I dont iron anything at all - I gave my iron and board to my son when he moved into a place of his own! :j... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hi
There's 4 of us. Me, hubby, DS(12) and DD(4).
All underwear, socks and t shirts or tops are only worn once. Trousers/bottoms and sweatshirts/jumpers/cardis worn until they're smelly/dirty. Usually 2 or 3 days.
Bedding once a week at 60 degrees, unless an accident has happened, sometimes once a fortnight depending on time. All towels usually only used once or twice then washed at 60 degrees. Bath mats and shower curtain washed at 60 degrees once a week. I probably average 8 or 9 loads a week.
As for ironing, I guess I'm a bit odd with that. If I've got loads then I iron 15 items at a time, which takes about 20 to 30 mins. Then I go off and do something else for a bit, then back to another 15 items and so on until it's done. Weird I know. But it just makes it appear less of a mammoth mountain and less time.0 -
I sooo know what you mean fizzel. I have a big family 4 kids and me in the house so my washing is continuous, i NEVER have an empty wash bin no matter how many washes i do per day.
I iron once a week only as i HATE ironing and so it takes me about 6 - 8 hours to do, but i would rather get that damn iron out once a week instead of every day!
My neighbour even commented on how much washing i always have on the line, maybe some of us are more obsessed, maybe afterall it is normal, all i know is that you are always more cautious about what gets washed and what doesnt when your the one doing the washing and ironing.0 -
There are only two of us, so 3 wash loads a week is perfectly sufficient.Stompa0
