Please don't think I'm being rude but all that washing is also a horrific cost to the environment. All the power you use, especially if you use a tumble dryer as well, and the water being used, it's really not good. Can you imagine doing that much washing if you didn't have a washing machine to chuck it in? You'd never be away from the sink! Think of all the free time you'd have as well if you cut it back a bit. Then you'd be able to do much more fun stuff and feel good about helping the environment :)

    Very good points Sugar Junkie.

Not only cost to the enviorment but also to your purse.

With Sugar Junkie there. I live on a boat so I'm mindful of the "greywater" impact as well. Other than undies, I can't see that anything needs to be washed after one wear unless it's got really dirty. I have had periods of time without a washing machine and done it by hande - believe me you cut down quickly if you have to do that! I probably do a load every few days (more than necessary, in fact). There are 3 of us.

I don't iron if I can help it. I wasn't put on this earth to do laundry ;)

It can be a bit habitual - I used to just pick up everything I could see to stick in the machine, regardless of whether it was really dirty.

You should try to cut down and spend some time on yourself - sounds like you have your hands full ;)

With 2 boys, I do crazy amounts of laundry but wouldn't swap that for them being in dirty clothes. Doing one load a day I tend to keep up with it, lately I've been missing a day and having to catch up, sometimes a handwash load rather than washing machine. Underwear daily changed but mainly hand washed. School the boys have at least 2 sets of clean clothes a day, uniform and after school, non school days about the same amount as they get filthy. Our clothes daily washed usually for tops, bottoms tend to last 2, towels in the basket after use if on body, my hair one usually does for twice. Bed linen weekly unless there is accidents, more often in summer. Dogs bed at least weekly. Cloths go into a bucket which is washed weekly at least, usually when full, use a lot of cloths as don't use wipes, kitchen roll etc. All clothes washes done on 1/2 hour wash at 30 degrees with minimal powder, dried outside or on airers, I have a drier but hasn't been used in ages. If I have to handwash, which has happened several times I still do the same amount of washing. Don't iron unless I seriously have to, hasn't been used for over a week now, saves lots of electric ;)
One day I might be more organised...........

    I wash knickers,socks and white t-shirts after 1 wear,other tops and trousers/skirts after 2-3 wearings.

Towels and bed linen get washed once a week.

I iron as little as possible and certainly not towels and bed linen.

There is only me so I never do more than 2/3 wash loads a week.

I do 7 washes, all on a Monday, all the clothes from the week before. The only things that get washed straight away are hubbys work overalls as he comes home smelling of pigs ****.

I't just me and DS, aged 3, i just do washing when i have enough of a certain colour, we obviously change underwear every day but i dont wash it all there and then, your clothes wont last as long if you constantly wash them, they end up fading.
DS doesn't wear the same thing twice because he gets them dirty but i will if it aint dorty, my uniform is washed every other day as i have 2 but only work 3 or 4 days a week.
I wouldnt do more than 9 loads of washing in a week as i refuse to buy more than one pack of wahsing tablets, they are something i dont scrimp on.
