I attempted a couple of the quicker items earlier including 'restore' explorer setting.. removing add-ons.

Also yesterday I had lots of 'critical' messages and kept closing down the computer. After searching on MSE & google saw it was a 'fake' bug/trogan and did a scan using SAS. It found a MSFake trojan and deleted/quarantened it... No more probs with 'critical' messages'. (not sure why security didnt stop it?)

I also discovered I had empty files in Start/All. I had the normal list of things put nothing inside, so I checked and saw a link at the bottom of the speed computer clean write=up about hidden files. I ran the 'unhide' link, which eventually said.. 'completed. But if for any reason hasnt worked, disable antiv and re-do'.

Mine didnt work so dis-abled avira and comodo, re-ran 'unhide', nothing. Any ideas whats wrong?

Also, when I went into System Tools bit to check my de-frag, theres only a message saying 'no add-on's'.

Not sure if these 2 are related?

I just want to say thank you to the OP for the first post. I went step by step through it last night and I was just about to put my old laptop in to our Computer man to see if he could make it faster. Well no need now, It has really made a difference, not superfast by some peoples standards but fine for me as a spare. In fact been using it all morning and am so pleased to have saved money on getting it speeded up:T

Unhide by grinler is used to fix specific problems caused by a distinctive family of fake.alert trojans.
