'Feeling empathy for Gordon' blog discussion

I'm sorry but when he was in the car he was still in an official capacity and his personal attack on her was completely out of order.
I work in an Operating Theatre - so are many of you saying that once our patients are asleep and out of ear shot we can call them all the names we fancy - i think not - and in my 25 years in the NHS i've never heard anyone do so and we would be struck off for doing so.
I don't see the difference!!!
I appreciate we are all human and all two faced, but there is a time for keeping personal insults to yourself.

For me it makes Gordon human and shows that he dislikes bigots which can only be good! For those who have already made an informed decision about who they are going to vote for this will be no more than a storm in a teacup. For those who are dithering and dislike racism this will sway them towards Labour and for those who are racist it will sway them away from Labour. Storm in a teacup.
Exactly.
For me as a Black Brit. - i was slightly uncomfortable with what that woman was actually saying & how she was saying it.
30 years ago, i could imagine her saying stuff like that about Black & Asian people.
I've met far too many people like her in my time, for my liking. Gordon was right to call her a bigot!0 -
I don 't think Mrs Duffy was bigoted in any way.
The fact that GB has apologised doesn't come in to it. His apology was not sincere as he was very untruthful. There was nothing in what Mrs Duffy said that could be 'misunderstood' she was a very plain speaking woman. He says he has apologised for saying such things / hurting Mrs Duffy etc but he was only sorry to be caught out!
I won't be voting for Labour - never have voted for them - but it has to be said that we all say things out of earshot (hopefully) - but unluckily for him it was in the public domain and now he looks like a lying idiot.0 -
Firstly, he demonstrated that he is totally out of touch with what the people who pay him think; if he thinks one woman is bigoted then he must accept that millions of people feel as she said and he, therefore, regards the large proportion of this country's population (his electorate) as being bigoted!
Secondly, he went on to try and blame everyone but himself for his gaffe; his assistant, Sue for putting him front of this woman, Sky tv for giving him his lapel microphone (they offered him a boom, but he turned it down) which he forgot to turn off!, his "mis-understanding" of what was said.
Thirdly, a cringeingly insincere apology that must have been wrung out of him by his "advisers".
But, worst of all, he moaned that the encounter had been a "disaster". Presumably, he thinks that actually meeting real members of the public, instead of the normal "stooges" bussed in for him to look good on the news is the "disaster" and not him!
The real "disaster" is what he and his cronies have done to ruin this country's economy for a generation :mad:0 -
I cannot condemn him for his comment, as most people will spout off some steam one time or another, however for me it brought to light the totally controlled environment the politicians are within, and anything not controlled by them always shows up controversy as they do not know how to converse with normal people on their level, no matter which party they are from.
I agree totally. This was the issue that actually struck me - nothing to do with the comments about the woman, but the criticism that he'd been put into the situation. The comment "That was a disaster - they should never have put me with that woman. Whose idea was that? It's just ridiculous..." is much more telling.0 -
So you want a person who says one thing to everyone....to get votes....then is thinking something totally different and as such will do whatever he has already decided to do....regardless of what those who voted for them want?!!!
If that is what you want from a PM....then sir.....you are an idiot!!!0 -
Oh....Gordon Brown is so so sorry.......only for getting caught that is!!!0

If anyone listened to Vanessa Feltz this morning but a caller rang in with a point. If you watch Gillan Duffy speaking to Gordon Brown - watch him recoil - it looks more like he misheard her comment about flowing Eastern Europeans for a word that I would not dare type here hnece his comments after in car which he though was his private sanctum.
I do feel sorry for him - how many people have put their foot in their mouth.
How do you think Winston Churchill would have faired out on the campaign trail meeting the general public, I don't think he was a people person.
Nice one Martin for standing up for him - he is a decent person and does not deserve the flack he gets!0
